Paulo Fernando Papaleo Fichtner

Studied Physics at the Physics Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS): BSc./1979, MSc/1982 and PhD/1987. Since 1987 is a member of the Ion Implantation Laboratory (IF-UFRGS). From 1998-1990 worked at the Research Center Juelich as an Alexander von Humboldt Post-Doc Fellow. Docent at the Electric Engineering Department, Engineering School (EE) UFRGS (1987-1992); Head of the Project and first Director of the Electron Microscopy Center (CME) UFRGS (1992-1998); Prof. of Physical Metallurgy at the Department of Metallurgy EE-UFRGS (1992-present); Head of the Transmission Electron Microscopy Laboratory CME-UFRGS (1997-present). Develop research activities focusing the fundamental understanding of phase transformations and microstructure evolution (extended defects, thin films, cavities, bubbles, nanoclusters and nanoparticles) in ion implanted/irradiated materials for information and energy technologies.

possui graduação em Física pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS-1979), mestrado em Física (UFRGS-1982) e doutorado em Física (UFRGS-1987). Realizou estágio de pós-doutorado como bolsista da Fundação Alexander von Humboldt no Centro de Pesquisa Juelich, Alemanha (1988-1990). Atualmente é professor titular do Dep. de Metalurgia, Escola de Engenharia, UFRGS. Atua como professor/orientador permanente nos programas de Pós-Graduação em Ciência dos Materiais (UFRGS) e Pós-Graduação em Física (UFRGS). Tem experiência na área de Física, com ênfase em Superfícies e Interfaces; Películas e Filamentos, bem como interação de radiação com a matéria. Desenvolve pesquisa principalmente na área de modificação, síntese e caracterização de materiais para as tecnologias da informação e da energia.
