Manuel Eduardo Ferreira is a Geographer, M.Sc. in Data Processing and Environmental Analysis, and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, with a postdoctoral internship at the Woodwell Climate Research Center (Massachusetts, USA). Since 2009, he has been a professor (exclusive dedication) at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) - Socio-environmental Studies Institute (IESA), and vice-coordinator of the Image Processing and Geoprocessing Laboratory (LAPIG), where he also directs the Nucleus of Research and Training with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Pro-Vant). In the year 2023, he assumed the General Direction of the Center of Excellence in Studies, Monitoring and Environmental Forecasts of the Cerrado (CEMPA-Cerrado). In the graduate level, he is a permanent professor at the Graduate Programs in Geography (PPGEO), Environmental Sciences (PPG-CIAMB) and Agribusiness (PPGAGRO) at the Federal University of Goiás. Between 2014 and 2016, he was coordinator of the Graduate Program in Geography (PPGEO), and of the undergraduate courses in Geography (2010-2011) and Environmental Sciences (2011-2012). His research interests involve monitoring and environmental modeling of natural and anthropic landscapes in the Cerrado, Amazon and Atlantic Forest biomes, with Remote Sensing techniques (aerial and orbital) and Geoprocessing, including the organization and availability of geographic databases through online platforms, such as the Cerrado Knowledge Platform (cepf.lapig.iesa.ufg.br/) and the Araticum Platform - Articulation for the Restoration of the Cerrado (araticum.lapig.iesa.ufg.br/). He is currently a CNPq Research Productivity Scholar (PQ-2, Area of Geosciences).

Na pós-graduação, é professor do quadro permanente dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Geografia (PPGEO), Ciências Ambientais (PPG-CIAMB) e Agronegócio (PPGAGRO) da Universidade Federal de Goiás. Entre os anos de 2014 e 2016, foi coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia (PPGEO), e dos cursos de Graduação em Geografia (2010-2011) e Ciências Ambientais (2011-2012). Seus interesses de pesquisa envolvem o monitoramento e a modelagem ambiental de paisagens naturais e antrópicas nos biomas Cerrado, Amazônia e Mata Atlântica com técnicas de Sensoriamento Remoto (aéreo e orbital) e Geoprocessamento, incluindo a organização e disponibilização de bases de dados geográficas por meio de plataformas online, como a Plataforma de Conhecimento do Cerrado (cepf.lapig.iesa.ufg.br/) e a Plataforma Araticum - Articulação pela Restauração do Cerrado (araticum.lapig.iesa.ufg.br/). Atualmente, é bolsista de produtividade em pesquisa do CNPq (PQ-2, Área de Geociências).
