Andre Fernandes da Paz

Andre Paz is an assistant professor at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and an affiliate professor at the Creative Media Graduate Program (PPGMC) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). André has an interdisciplinary academic background and broad experience as a researcher, coodinater, curator, and creative director, with a focus on interactive and immersive documentaries working in collaboration with creative leaders, producers, and NGOs. André integrates research, teaching, and extension and outreach through research-creation and research-action methodologies. Over the last few years, André has worked with project development methodologies for interactive and immersive documentaries; coordinated workshops and mentored and coached training programs with creative leaders; and has taught his Master's level courses in the Creative Media Graduate Program (PPGMC) and at the Cultural Creation and Production Laboratory course (UNIRIO). He continually improves his methodology through his research. In 2018-2019, André, together with Sandra Gaudenzi, coordinated the research project ?!F BUG LAB: an experimental methodology for developing interactive documentary projects in the Brazilian context?, an international collaboration between UNIRIO/UFRJ and University of Westminster (UK). Together with Normand Roy, André currently coordinates ?Innovation en Réalité Virtuelle (RV): Les expériences de cocréation au Québec et au Brésil? (UNIRIO/ Université de Montréal). In 2015, with Julia Salles (Université du Québec à Montréal ? UQAM/ Université de Montréal ? UdeM), André designed Bug404 (bug404.net), an innovative project derived from his post-doctoral research-action in the Advanced Program of Contemporary Culture (PACC) at UFRJ. Since then, he has coordinated the knowledge action network, Bug404, and all principal activities related to it. In 2018, Andre Paz was the main curator of Bug Exhibition ? the first and most ambitious showing of its kind in Brazil. With Sandra Gaudenzi (University of Westminster), André edited the bilingual book ?Bug: interactive and immersive narratives?, the first Portuguese-language book about the field. It is used in PPGMC's application process and as a textbook for its Master's level courses. As coordinator of the Extension and Outreach program, "BugLab: technology, production, and image", and in collaboration with different partners, André has led a series of activities to promote, produce, and mentor the development of projects such as "Cine Clube Bug XR" and "Além da Visão" (Beyond the Vision). The former is a program to promote and debate virtual and augmented reality projects with the public and with researchers. The latter is an innovative, immersive work being developed and co-created with blind collaborators. It is an immersive circuit in the form of an installation, including performance, virtual reality, and 3D audio.
