Dirk Rafael Thielen Engelbertz

My professional evolution has allowed me to obtain solid knowledge and skills in the study of the effects of the Global Changes in tropical terrestrial ecosystems. For the last 15 years, my activities have been part of different multidisciplinary and inter-institutional working groups, in which I have participated both as co-responsible researcher (CoPI) and as principal (PI). My responsibilities as a researcher have included both administrative and operational activities; referred to the collection of information of extensive and intense works, both in field and laboratory conditions. From these experiences, I have developed skills for the integration of results at different scales of work; from methodologies for the study of the landscape (through the use of geographic information systems and remote sensors), to those for the study of local phenomena (field and laboratory work). The results of my research have been published in high impact journals (SCI), as well as in recognized international events. My experiences include direct and constant responsibilities in teaching and academic activities at the fourth level. As an expert on the subject of Global Changes, my opinion has been required by various official bodies, both national and international. In recognition of this career, I have held various positions of responsibility in the main scientific research institute in Venezuela (IVIC) where, for the last 15 years, I have worked as a researcher.
