Maria Luiza (Malu) Fragoso is a PHD In Arts and Multimedia by the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) In São Paulo (BR - 2003) ansd Post-Doctorate in Visual Arts at ECA-University of São Paulo -SP. Research focuses on trans disciplinary aspects between art, science, technology and itraditional cultures. Trans cultural processes are investigated through the transposition of knowledge between cultures and their specific forms of expression, observed and experimented in multimedia and computer art contexts, in order to explore the esthetic potential from a reinvented aisthesis. Papers and artistic experimentations are produced in the field of telematic environments, art performances and computer installations. Multimedia (video) documentations are also produced and shared with the indigenous groups involved in the research. Malu was a professor at the Visual Arts Department at the University of Brasília between 1993 and 2009 and is currently coordinator of studies at the Design and Visual Communication department at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Has been supervising thesis since 2005, at both institutions. Is an elected member of the National Association of Researcher in Fine Arts's directory for the period 2010-2012. Graduated in Fine Arts, Major in Drawing at the University of Brasília (BR - 1984), and obtained Masters Degree in Fine Arts, Major in Printmaking at the George Washington University (USA-1993). Is the coordinator of the research group REDE- Art and Technology, trans cultural nets in multimedia and telematics, and coordinator, with Guto Nobrega the space NANO ? Nucleous of Art and New Organisms, a research lab for exploring the intersection of art science and technology.
Maria Luiza (Malu) Fragoso possui Licenciatura em Educação Artística, com Habilitação em Desenho, pela Universidade de Brasília (1984), mestrado em Fine Arts, major in Printmaking, pela George Washington University (1993), doutorado em Multimeios pelo Instituto de Artes da UNICAMP (SP) (2003), e Pós-Doutorado em Artes Visuais pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais da ECA, USP (2014). Sua pesquisa de caráter interdisciplinar nos domínios da arte, ciência, tecnologia, natureza e culturas tradicionais investiga processos de transculturalidade provocados pela transposição entre áreas de conhecimento. Parte do diálogo entre culturas, seus respectivos conhecimentos e modos de expressão inseridos no contexto da multimídia e da telemática ao explorar o potencial estético que se revela a partir de uma aisthesis reinventada pelo universo computacional. O trabalho de pesquisa produz como resultados estudos teórico-práticos no campo da experimentação artística envolvendo objetos e ambientes conectados na internet (IoT), performances e instalações computacionais. Coordenadora do NANO ? Núcleo de Arte e Novos Organismos - EBA/UFRJ desde 2010). Integra o grupo de pesquisa Arte e Tecnologia vinculado ao Laboratório de Pesquisa em Arte Contemporânea, Tecnologia e Mídias Digitais/LABART - UFSM.
