Paul Charles Freston

CIGI Chair in Religion and Politics in Global Context in the Balsillie School of International Affairs and Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and professor colaborador in the post-graduate course in sociology at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). Also Distinguished Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Studies of Religion, Baylor University, USA. Graduated in history and social anthropology from the University of Cambridge (1975); masters in Latin American Studies from the University of Liverpool (1981), masters in Christian Studies from Regent College, Vancouver, Canada (1983) and PhD in social science from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1993). Was professor adjunto at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, and Chair in sociology at Calvin College, Michigan, USA. Works in the area of sociology, with emphasis in sociology of religion. Mainly studies the following themes: sociology of religion; religion and politics; religion and globalization; Protestantism; pentecostalism.
