Graduado em Quimica - UFPR (1984), mestrado em Química Analítica Inorgânica - PUC/RJ (1987) (orientador: Mitsukimi Tsunoda), doutorado em Química Analítica Inorgânica - PUC/RJ/TU-Berlim (1992) (orientadores: Mitsukimi Tsunoda / Robert Schöllhorn) e pós-doutorado no Instituto Federal de Tecnologia da Suiça - ETH (1997) (orientador: Roel Prins). É professor Titular senior da UFPR e atua na área de compostos lamelares naturais e sintéticos, modificação química de superfícies e aplicação desses compostos em nanocompósitos poliméricos, como catalisadores, fertilizantes de liberação lenta e emulsões de Pickering. Foi coordenador do programa de pós-graduação em engenharia e ciência dos Materiais (PIPE-UFPR - 2004-2007), atua no Programa de pós-graduação em Química (PPGQ) e Engenharia e Ciencia dos Materiais (PIPE). Foi editor associado da revista Applied Clay Science e pertenceu ao corpo editorial da Quimica Nova, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, The Open Colloid Science Journal, The Open catalysis journal e Applied Clay Science. É atualmente do corpo editorial da revista Austin Chemical Engineering e da revista Applied Clay Science (Elsevier). Em 2023, consta no AD Scientific Index entre os pesquisadores mais citados do mundo no World Ranking for Scientists (posição 2 na UFPR, top 1 no Brasil, top 1 na América Latina e top 3.7 no mundo). Atua como revisor de 141 revistas científicas, é editor dos livros Clay Surfaces - Fundamentals and applications (2004), Academic Press e Clay Minerals and Synthetic Analogous as Emulsifiers of Pickering Emulsions (2022), Elsevier. Possui 262 artigos científicos publicados (2 submetidos, 2 aceito), 25 capítulos de livros, 41 patentes e 10.222 citações científicas (ISI Web of Knowledge em 07/2023). Editor do volume especial 168 da revista applied Clay Science (2019). Orientou/co-orientou 44 dissertações, 32 teses, 19 alunos de IC e 2 pos-doc e atualmente orienta/co-orienta, 1 aluna de IC e 2 teses de doutorado. Possui fator h= 50 no ISI e h= 59 no Google Scholar. Is the former coordinator of the pos-graduation program of Engineering and Materials Science (PIPE-UFPR - 2004/2007), work in the Pos-graduation program at UFPR: Chemistry (PPGQ) and Engineering and Materials Science (PIPE). Is a former editor of Applied Clay Science and member of the editorial board of Quimica Nova, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, The Open Catalysis Journal and The Open Colloid Science Journal.
