Doutor em Economia de Empresas pela Fundação Getulio Vargas - SP (2004), mestre em Economia pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1995) e bacharel em Economia pela Universidade Federal de Sergipe (1991). É professor titular da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS), vinculado ao Departamento de Economia (DEE), ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Economia (PPGE) e ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Propriedade Intelectual (PPGPI). Tem experiência na área de Economia, com ênfase em crescimento econômico, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: desenvolvimento regional, inovação e finanças. Pesquisador do Laboratório de Economia Aplicada e Desenvolvimento Regional (LEADER). Foi chefe do Departamento de Economia (DEE/UFS), vice-coordenador do Núcleo de Pós-Graduação em Economia (NUPEC/UFS) e coordenador do Centro de Inovação e Transferência de Tecnologia (CINTEC/UFS). Foi também presidente da Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa e à Inovação Tecnológica do Estado de Sergipe (FAPITEC/SE) e vice-presidente do Conselho Nacional das Fundações Estaduais de Amparo à Pesquisa (CONFAP). Foi ainda Superintendente Executivo da Secretaria da Educação, do Esporte e da Cultura de Sergipe (SEDUC/SE) e Diretor de Cooperação Institucional do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq).

He was head of the Department of Economics (DEE/UFS), vice-coordinator of the Center for Postgraduate Studies in Economics (NUPEC/UFS) and coordinator of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CINTEC/UFS). He was also president Foundation of Support for Research and Technological Innovation of the State of Sergipe (FAPITEC/SE) and vice president of the National Council of State Research Support Foundations (CONFAP). He was also Executive Superintendent of the Secretariat of Education, Sport and Culture of Sergipe (SEDUC/SE) and Director of Institutional Cooperation of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
