Celina Felício Veríssimo

Céline Veríssimo is an architect graduated by ARCA/ETAC (1996), obtained her Masters in Sustainable Architecture at the University of Chiba, Japan (2001) and her PhD at The Bartlett Development Planning Unit - University College London (2012). Recently, she developed a post-doctoral internship under the supervision of Boaventura de Sousa Santos at the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She has experience in research, teaching and professional practice in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism, Political Ecology, Development Planning, Post-Colonial African Studies and Decolonial theory. In 1999 and 2000 she trained at the architecture studios of Ken Yeang in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Shigeru Ban in Tokyo (Japan). From 1996 to 2006 she worked as an architect, researcher and lecturer in the areas of Design, Theory and History of Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape and Urban Political Ecology in Norway, Japan, Kuala Lumpur, Portugal and Mozambique. She was a professor in architecture faculties at ARCA/ETAC, and PARQ_EUVG, both in Coimbra, and at Portuguese Catholic University in Viseu. In 2014, Veríssimo was a Visiting Professor and since 2015, she has been an Adjunct Professor in the Architecture and Urbanism Course and in the Postgraduate Program in Public Policies and Development at the Federal University for Latin American Integration (UNILA), having been elected coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Center for Territory, Architecture and Design - CITAD/ILATIT (2017-2019). The most recent work fronts, in teaching, research, outreach and administration at UNILA, enabled her to work with activists, social movements, popular leaders, Candomblé African-religious matriarchal communities, indigenous Guarani communities, teachers and students in a multidisciplinary ground-based approach. With these, Veríssimo establishes a spatial reading of socio-environmental conflicts, food insecurity and environmental racism, through a situated approach aimed to assist the subalternized communities' resistances, (re)existences and struggles for life, rooted in their knowledges, experiences, cosmovisions and ways of dwelling, building a bridge with previous research in Mozambique. Since 2016, she has been deputy leader of the MALOCA Group for Multidisciplinary Studies in Southern Urbanisms and Architectures. She also collaborates with the research group ¡DALE! Decolonizing Latin America and Its Spaces.

Céline Veríssimo é arquiteta pela ARCA/ETAC (1996), obteve o seu Mestrado em Arquitetura Sustentável pela Universidade de Chiba, Japão (2001) e possui doutoramento obtido pela The Bartlett Development Planning Unit - University College London (2012). Recentemente, desenvolveu estágio pós-doutoral sob orientação do Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos no Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal. Tem experiência na investigação, no ensino e prática profissional na área de Arquitetura e Urbanismo. Em 1999 e 2000 estagiou nos ateliers de arquitetura de Ken Yeang em Kuala Lumpur (Malásia) e Shigeru Ban em Tóquio (Japão). De 1996 a 2006 trabalhou como arquiteta, pesquisador e docente nas áreas de Projeto, Teoria e História de Arquitetura, Urbanismo e Paisagem e de Ecologia Politica Urbana em Oslo, Japão, Kuala Lumpur, Portugal e Moçambique. Foi docente na ARCA/ETAC, no PARQ_EUVG em Coimbra e no Departamento de Arquitetura, Universidade Católica Portuguesa em Viseu. Desde 2015, é Professora Adjunta no Curso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Políticas Públicas e Desenvolvimento (PPGPPD) da Universidade Federal para a Integração Latino Americana - UNILA, tendo sido eleita coordenadora do Centro Interdisciplinar de Território, Arquitetura e Design - CITAD/ILATIT (2017-2019). As distintas frentes de trabalho mais recentes, no ensino, pesquisa, extensão e administração na UNILA, possibilitaram atuar com ativistas, movimentos sociais, lideranças populares, povo de santo no candomblé, caciques e xamoy de comunidades indígenas Guarani, professores e estudantes de graduação e pós-graduação. Com estes, Veríssimo estabelece uma leitura espacial dos conflitos socio-ambientais, insegurança alimentar e racismo ambiental, entre outras questões que caracterizam a grande desigualdade na região tríplice fronteira ARG-BR-PY, elaborando uma ponte com investigações anteriores em Moçambique. Desde 2016, é vice-líder do MALOCA Grupo de Estudos Multidisciplinares em Urbanismos e Arquiteturas do Sul. Também atua como colaboradora do grupo de pesquisa ¡DALE! Decolonizar a América Latina e Seus Espaços.
