Fernando Gomes de Souza Júnior
Fernando Gomes earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry-Education from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (1999), a Master's degree in Materials Engineering and Science from the State University of Northern Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (2002), a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2006), and completed a Postdoctoral position in the Chemical Engineering Program at COPPE/UFRJ (2008). Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor IV at the Institute of Macromolecules of UFRJ and a Full Professor in the Nanotechnology Engineering Program at COPPE/UFRJ since 2019. He has been honored with several awards, including the Young Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State (FAPERJ-2015), Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State (FAPERJ-2021), the Chair Professorship on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from Mahatma Gandhi University in India (2018), and Researcher 1D CNPq (2023). Over the years, he has published 214 articles in scientific journals, as well as 13 books and 25 book chapters. His research has gained widespread recognition, demonstrated by his 248 total works, 2379 citations, and an H-index of 29 in the Web of Science; 125 total works and 2342 citations in SCOPUS; and 282 total works, 3286 citations, and an H-index of 34 in Google Scholar, as of February 8, 2023. His primary research focus is on polymer nanocomposites derived from renewable resources, aiming to develop innovative applications that promote the adoption of these materials across various sectors.
Throughout his career, Fernando Gomes has effectively mentored students in multiple roles, having completed 29 Master's dissertations as the main advisor, 4 as a co-advisor, 12 Ph.D. theses as the main advisor, and 7 as a co-advisor. He has also supervised 17 undergraduate thesis projects, 139 scientific initiation projects, 9 postdoctoral projects, and 92 projects of other nature. He has held various editorial positions, serving as a member of the editorial board of the Current Applied Polymer Science journal (ISSN 2452-2716) since 2016 and Editor-in-Chief since 2020, Associate Editor of the MedCrave Online Journal (MOJ) Polymer Science (ISSN: 2574-9773) since 2017, Honorable Editor of the Academic Journal of Polymer Science since 2018, and a member of the editorial board of Composite Interfaces (ISSN: 1568-5543) since 2021. He founded the Brazilian Journal of Experimental Design, Data Analysis, and Inferential Statistics in 2021, where he serves as its first Editor-in-Chief.
