Possui graduação em Ciencias da Computação pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1980), mestrado em Engenharia Industrial e Sistemas - Georgia Institute of technology (1989), mestrado em Matemática Aplicada pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1983) e doutorado em Engenharia Industrial e Sistemas - Georgia Institute of technology (1992). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Produção, com ênfase em Modelagem Matemática, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: programacao linear, programação linear inteira, heurísticas, cutting stock e meta-heurísticas.
