Christine de Alencar Chaves

Antropóloga com mestrado e doutorado pelo PPGAS da Universidade de Brasília, desde 2009 integro seu corpo docente no Departamento de Antropologia, depois de ter exercido a docência na Universidade Federal do Paraná e na Universidade Federal de Uberlândia e concluído um pós-doutorado no Museu Nacional da UFRJ.Concentro minha área de pesquisa na antropologia da política, com foco etnográfico voltado às concepções e práticas políticas em meio popular e à organização política de movimentos sociais e sua relação com o Estado. Também estudo as interseções entre política e religião, sua capacidade de mobilização social dos afetos, bem como seus efeitos políticos mais amplos, a exemplo da inspiração do protesto social. A constituição mutável da noção de pessoa integra meus interesses de pesquisa, seja em sua interface política, seja religiosa. Meus projetos de pesquisa são guiados por uma ênfase etnográfica e aliam o uso das qualidades analíticas dos rituais e dos micro eventos de interação cotidiana com a investigação da potência socialmente criativa que eles são capazes de mobilizar.Sou autora de A Marcha Nacional dos Sem Terra. Christine de Alencar Chaves is a Brazilian anthropologist, and professor at the Anthropology Department at the University of Brasília (UnB). Her research interests have been centered on the anthropology of politics with a focus on popular groups political conceptions and practices. Also, her concerns include political organization of social movements and the relations they have been establishing with the State since mid-1980s, when Brazil returned to democracy. More recently, she has become particularly interested in scrutinizing the intersection between politics and religion and its capacity for social mobilization of the affections, as well as its broader political effects as the process of organizing social protest. Christine builds her projects on an ethnographic basis which allows her to articulate both the use of the analytical qualities of rituals, and daily micro-events with the investigation of the social creative power that they are able to mobilize.Christine Chaves obtained her PhD degree in Social Anthropology at the Anthropology Posgraduate Program (PPGAS) at the University of Brasilia (UnB), in 1999. Before joining UnB as a professor, she was Professor at the Anthropology Department of the Federal University of Paraná (1996-2009) and at the Social Sciences Department at the Federal University of Uberlândia (1991-1993).
