Maria do Carmo Pires

Graduated in History from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (1994), Master in History from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1997) and PhD in History from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2005). She completed his post-doctoral work at the Center for Research and Documentation (CPDOC), at the School of Social Sciences at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) (2014) and at the Faculty of History at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) (2017/2018). She is Associate Professor IV at the Department of Tourism and coordinator of the Graduate Program in Tourism and Heritage at the Federal University of Ouro Preto. Member of the Minas Gerais Cultural Heritage Network (RPC-MG). She was a fellow of the Minas Gerais Researcher Program at FAPEMIG. She was leader of the CNPq research group "Tourism Workshop: Research and Extension Center" from 2008 to 2016 and is vice-leader of the CNPq Societas research group: tourism, heritage, social and work relations and a member of the CNPq research group Toponymy, Cultural Heritage and Education. She has experience in the field of History, with an emphasis on History of Colonial Brazil and works mainly on the following topics: church, state, society and culture in Minas Gerais, city council, local power, heritage and tourism.

Possui graduação em História pela Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (1994), mestrado em História pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1997) e doutorado em História pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2005). Realizou pós doutorado no Centro de Pesquisa e Documentação (CPDOC), da Escola de Ciências Sociais da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) (2014) e na Faculdade de História da Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG) (2017/2018). É professora titular do Departamento de Turismo e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Turismo e Patrimônio da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. Foi bolsista do Programa Pesquisador Mineiro da FAPEMIG. Foi líder o grupo de pesquisa do CNPq "Oficina do Turismo: núcleo de pesquisa e extensão" de 2008 a 2016 e é membro do grupo de pesquisa do CNPq Toponímia, Patrimônio Cultural e Educação. Tem experiência na área de História, com ênfase em História do Brasil e de Minas Gerais setecentistas e atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: igreja, estado, sociedade, cultura, câmara municipal, poder local, patrimônio e turismo
