Carlos Eduardo Pedreira

Carlos Eduardo Pedreira is a Research Productivity Fellow at CNPq, level 1B and Scientist-of-Our-State of FAPERJ. He received a Ph.D. (1987) from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of London (CAPES Scholarship). Engineer, graduated from PUC-Rio, he earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Systems) at the same institution (CNPq scholarship). He entered the academic career at PUC, having left this institution in 2005. Since 2006 he is a professor at UFRJ, currently working at COPPE, in the Systems and Computing Program (CAPES 7), where he is the head of the Artificial Intelligence area. He was professor of Biostatistics at the Graduate School of Medicine (Medical Clinic Program, CAPES 7) between 2006 and 2016 and in the Pediatrics Program in 2020. He has been working as a visiting researcher at the University of Salamanca, Spain since 2002 (annual visits since then). He works as a teacher and researcher in Machine Learning, Standards Classification, Statistics, and Applications in the health area. He is an inventor in several patents abroad (United States, Europe, Australia and Japan). It has index h= 19, >2400 citations in the Scopus base and h= 18 index with >2000 citations in the JCR database. His articles have accumulated impact index > 210, with an average of 4.7. He supervised 16 doctors, 24 masters, as well as several postdoctoral students. As a mentor he received awards from the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics (undergraduate students) and BMF (finalist in a doctoral theses competition). His former mentors currently work at BMFBOVESPA, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, the SAS Institute in the U.S., Tsukuba University in Japan and several Brazilian universities. He was Founding President of the Brazilian Society of Neural Networks (now the Brazilian Society of Computational Intelligence). Since 2016 he is 'Statistical Advisor' of the journal Clinical Cytometry. He received the Santander Science and Innovation Award in 2006 (more than 1000 competitors). In 2009, he was awarded a scholarship from the Carolina Foundation (Spain). Winner of the Nicola Albano Award 2010 (Brazilian Society of Pediatrics).

É bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, (nível 1B desde 2009) e Cientista-do-Nosso-Estado da FAPERJ (desde 2007). Obteve o grau de Ph.D. pelo Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine da Universidade de Londres (bolsa CAPES) em 1987. Engenheiro, graduado pela PUC-Rio, fez mestrado em Eng. Elétrica (Sistemas) na mesma instituição (bolsa CNPq). Ingressou na carreira acadêmica na PUC, tendo deixado esta instituição em 2005. Desde 2006 é professor da UFRJ, atuando atualmente na COPPE, no Programa de Sistemas e Computação (CAPES 7), onde é o chefe da área de Inteligencia Artificial. Foi professor de Bioestatística na Pós-graduação na Faculdade de Medicina (Programa de Clínica Médica, CAPES 7) entre 2006 e 2016 e no Programa de Pediatria em 2020. Atua como professor e pesquisador em Aprendizagem por Máquina, Classificação de Padrões, Estatística, e em Aplicações na área de saúde. É inventor em 12 patentes no exterior (Estados Unidos, Europa, Austrália e Japão), todas concedidas e licenciadas. Tem Índice índice h= 22 com >2800 citações na base JCR, indice h=28 com >5100 citações na base Google Acadêmico. Seus artigos têm Índice de impacto acumulado > 400, com uma média de 6.7. Orientou (teses concluídas) 18 doutores, 26 mestres, além de 5 alunos de pós-doutorado. Seus ex-orientandos atualmente trabalham na Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai em Nova Iorque, no SAS Institute nos E.U., na Universidade de Tsukuba no Japão, na Sorbonne Universite em Paris e em diversas universidades brasileiras. Foi o Presidente Fundador da Sociedade Brasileira de Inteligência Computacional (ex Sociedade Brasileira de Redes Neurais). Desde 2016 é 'Statistical Advisor' do periódico Clinical Cytometry. Recebeu o Prêmio Santander de Ciência e Inovação de 2006 (mais de 1000 concorrentes). Foi contemplado, em 2009, com bolsa da Fundação Carolina (Espanha). Vencedor do Prêmio Nicola Albano de 2010 (Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria).
