Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1973) and PhD in Health Sciences: Cardiology and Cardiovascular Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1988), specialization in Pediatric Cardiology and Echocardiography at the Hospital of Sick Children. University of Toronto, Canada. He is currently Full Professor at the Department of Pediatrics and Childcare at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS, with undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and Advisor Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences-Cardiology of the Institute of Cardiology of the RS- University Foundation of Cardiology For more than 20 years, he was Head of the Research Unit of the Institute of Cardiology of the RS- University Foundation of Cardiology and was a member of the Superior Council of the Rio Grande State Research Support Foundation for 12 years. of the South - FAPERGS. He is Head of the Fetal Cardiology Unit of the Institute of Cardiology of RS - University Foundation of Cardiology - IC / FUC, which he founded in 1993, being the first Fetal Cardiology Unit of Latin America. She holds a Specialist Degree in Cardiology from the Brazilian Society of Cardiology - SBC and in Pediatrics from the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics - SBP, with a degree in Pediatric Cardiology and a degree in Echocardiography from the Department of Echocardiography of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology - SBC. He is a member of the Editorial Councils of the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology, Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging and for 15 years of Cardiology in the Young (England), and reviewer of several indexed international journals: Circulation, Archives of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Diseases, Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cardiology in the Young, having been the Editor-in-Chief Editor of the journal Journal of Pregnancy - Special Edition on Advances in Fetal Cardiology. He is an Effective Member of the Association for the European Society for Pediatric Cardiology, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Society of Echocardiography. Has experience in Medicine, focusing on Maternal and Child Health, acting in the area of ​​Fetal Cardiology, being his main research lines: Fetal Ductal Constriction and Polyphenols; Fetal Diastolic Dysfunction in Restricted Intrauterine Growth; Fetal Diastolic Function in Maternal Diabetes and Echocardiographic Morphology and Evolutionary Modifications of Congenital Heart Diseases, and their publications represented advances in knowledge in the area. His academic-scientific activities include training human resources in research, with guidance from PhD, Master and Scientific Initiation students. It has 728 citations in the literature, its index h = 19 as of today.

Atualmente é Professor Titular do Departamento de Pediatria e Puericultura da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS, com atuação na graduação e pós-graduação, e Membro da Comissão Coordenadora e Professor Orientador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde - Cardiologia do Instituto de Cardiologia do RS- Fundação Universitária de Cardiologia Exerceu durante mais de 20 anos a Chefia da Unidade de Pesquisa do Instituto de Cardiologia do RS- Fundação Universitária de Cardiologia e foi por 12 anos membro do Conselho Superior da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul - FAPERGS. É Chefe da Unidade de Cardiologia Fetal do Instituto de Cardiologia do RS - Fundação Universitária de Cardiologia - IC/FUC, da qual foi fundador em 1993, sendo esta a primeira Unidade de Cardiologia Fetal da América Latina. É Representante Institucional PIBIC/CNPq. Tem Títulos de Especialista em Cardiologia pela Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia - SBC e em Pediatria pela Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria - SBP, com habilitação em Cardiologia Pediátrica e habilitação em Ecocardiografia pelo Departamento de Ecocardiografia da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia ? SBC. Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em Saúde Materno-Infantil, atuando na área de Cardiologia Fetal, sendo suas principais linhas de pesquisa a Constrição Ductal Fetal e Polifenóis;Disfunção Diastólica Fetal no Crescimento Intrauterino Restrito; Função Diastólica Fetal no Diabetes Materno e Morfologia Ecocardiográfica e Modificações Evolutivas das Cardiopatias Congênitas, tendo suas publicações representado avanço do conhecimento na área. Suas atividades acadêmico-científicas incluem a formação de recursos humanos em pesquisa, com orientação de alunos de Doutorado, Mestrado e Iniciação Científica. Tem 1006 citações na literatura, sendo seu índice h = 18 na data de hoje.
