He is a researcher at Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology (IGG) where coordinates the Multiprofessional Care for the Oldest-Old Project. He also coordinates the Program "Assumindo o Controle de sua Saúde" for the Pan American Health Organization (Brazilian branch). He was the President of City Council of the Older-Adults of Porto Alegre (2014-2016), helping the City to integrate the Age-Friendly Communities and Cities network of the World Health Organization; and the Brazilian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology RS Branch between 2012 and 2014, creating the Interest Groups Program. Graduated in Medicine at Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (Brazil) in 1983, has specialization on Geriatrics and Gerontology at IGG of PUCRS and on Community Health at the Health Care Unit of Murialdo. Has PhD degree In Medicine from Tokai University, School of Medicine (Japan), with emphasis in Community Health, and post-doctoral degree at National Institute on Aging (USA) and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health (USA). In 2015 did a third post-doctoral training at the Department of Social Participation and Health of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology. Has experience in Statistic with mayor on longitudinal data analysis, acting on the following subjects: longevity, aging, health promotion, primary prevention, quality of life and preventive geriatrics. Currently, teaches four courses at Master's and Doctoral Programs at the Graduate Program in Biomedical Gerontology of PUCRS: Quantitative Methods of Biomedical Research, Epidemiology and Demography of Ageing, Public Health and Ageing and Social Gerontology. He is currently the Head of the Public Health and Ageing Research Field. Offers training courses on Data Management and Analysis using EPI INFO (windows version) and SPSS, for the scientific community. Coordinates the course of Integrated Geriatric Assistance for non-medical professionals. Possui graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (1983) especialização em Geriatria e Gerontologia pelo IGG da PUCRS e Saúde Comunitária pela Unidade Sanitária Murialdo, doutorado em Phd In Medicine com ênfase em Saúde Comunitária pela Tokai University (Japão) em 1995 e pós-doutorado no Instituto Nacional Americano sobre o Envelhecimento e na Escola de Saúde Pública da Universidade de Johns Hopkins em Baltimore, EUA, onde acompanhou o Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, onde trabalhou como Estatístico Senior entre 2003 e 2008. Em 2015 realizou seu terceiro pós-doutorado no Departamento de Saúde e Participação Social do Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology. É professor permanente do Programa de Mestrado e Doutorado em Gerontologia Biomédica (CAPES 7), além de orientar alunos de Mestrado e Doutorado, leciona as as disciplinas Métodos Quantitativos de Pesquisa em Gerontologia Biomédica, Epidemiologia e Demografia do Envelhecimento, Saúde Pública e Envelhecimento e Gerontologia Social. Coordena a Linha de Pesquisa em Saúde Pública e Envelhecimento, desenvolvendo diversos projetos. Oferece cursos de Gerenciamento de Banco de Dados e Análise de Dados Usando o EPI INFO. Autor do livro "Epi Info Sem Mistérios: um manual prático" em sua segunda edição (free ebook). Tem experiência na área de Probabilidade e Estatística, com ênfase em Análise de Dados Longitudinais, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: longevidade, envelhecimento, promoção da saúde, prevenção primária, qualidade de vida e epidemiologia.
