Marjorie Cattaneo Fernandes

Marjorie has always been fascinated by the natural world, especially life under the sea. With this in mind she progressed through university, graduating from the Federal University of Grande Dourados in 2008 with a Bachelor degree in biological sciences. She started her career in the North West of Brazil, where she studied the reproductive biology of 7 species of elasmobranchs and, was part of a short expedition named PROTUBA to investigate shark attacks in Recife, Brazil. This work made her realize that sharks are her passion and that she wanted to dedicate her life to the conservation of sharks.For her M.Sc. at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) she researched associations of algae and molluscs in the South West of Brazil, focusing on community structure patterns. Currently Marjorie is working towards her PhD at the University of Western Australia. She is looking at fish biodiversity and behavior using a recent non-destructive and non-invasive research method with mid-water baited remote underwater systems (BRUVS) enabling monitoring of mid-water life within marine reserves. Doutoranda na University of Western Australia, Mestre em Ecologia pelo Programa de Pós-graduação da Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP, com Bolsa de Estudos da CAPES, orientada pelo Prof. Dr. Flávio Dias Passos com projeto intitulado Diversidade de Gastropoda e Bivalvia associados às algas pardas do gênero Sargassum C. Agardh, 1820 (Sargassaceae) do canal de São Sebastião, Litoral Norte do Estado de São Paulo . Participou do projeto intitulado "Capacitação em taxonomia de invertebrados marinhos junto ao Museu de Zoologia da Universidade Estadual de Campinas", colaborando na identificação de moluscos bivalves marinhos bem como organização da coleção científica e tombamento dos exemplares identificados, com Bolsa de Estudos do CNPq, orientada pela Profa. Dra. Antônia Cecília Zacagnini Amaral e co-orientada pelo Prof. Dr. Flávio Dias Passos.
