Professor Titular do Departamento de Solos da Universidade Federal de Viçosa - e - Tinker Visiting Professor das Universidades de Stanford, CA e de Wisconsin, WI, USA. Membro das sociedades honoríficas Phi Kappa Phi e Gamma Sigma Delta, Capítulo NCSU, USA; recebeu o prêmio PPI Fellowships dado pelo Instituto da Potassa e Fosfato aos melhores projetos de tese de estudantes estrangeiros nos USA em 1987. Possui graduação em Agronomia e Mestrado (M.S.) em Fertilidade do Solo pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa e concluiu o Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) em Mineralogia e Química de Solos na North Carolina State University em 1988. Realizou Períodos sabáticos em 1994 na Universidade da Califórnia - Berkeley, trabalhando com o Prof. Garrison Sposito, em 2001 na Universidade Técnica de Munique (Alemanha) trabalhando com o Prof. Udo Schwertmann e em 2009 na Universidade de Stanford, trabalhando com o Prof. Scott Fendorf. Tem grande experiência em docência ministrando cursos de graduação em Gênese de Solos e de pós-graduação em Mineralogia de Solos e Química de Solos na UFV. Realiza pesquisas em diversos campos da Pedologia com ênfase em mineralogia e química de solos altamente intemperizados e metais pesados em solos, águas e plantas, dentro do contexto de poluição ambiental. Tem publicado trabalhos com muito boa aceitação na literatura especializada, como comprovado pelas base bibliográficas Scopus, Web of Science e Google Scholar. Tem também trabalhado em diversas interfaces com outras áreas da Ciência, especialmente, com a Química, nas áreas de Analítica de Elementos Traços e Química Ambiental e com a Engenharia Civil, na área de Geotecnia. Em seu currículo Lattes os termos mais freqüentes na contextualização da produção científica e tecnológica são: Metais pesados, Poluição ambiental, Solos tropicais, Mineralogia, Matéria orgânica, Solos altamente intemperizados, Extração sequencial, Adsorcao de Fosfato e Cargas elétricas. Em 2012 foi convidado a lecionar na Universidade de Stanford, CA, USA, ministrando o curso denominado Soils and Nutrient Cycling in the Amazonia Rainforest na posição de Professor Visitante junto ao Center of Latin American Studies e Environmental Earth System Science Department. Em 2020, foi convidado a lecionar o curso Soils of Amazon: Genesis and Mineralogy novamente na posição de Prof. Visitante junto ao Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies e Soil Science Department da University of Wisconsin. Desde 2014 coordena um Programa PROCAD (CAPES) com as Universidades Federais do Amazonas (UFAM) e do Vale do São Francisco (UNIVASF), no qual um importante projeto tem objetivo de gerar subsídios para o estabelecimento dos Valores Orientadores de Qualidade (VRQ) para metais pesados e elementos terras raras (ETR) para os Solos do Estado do Amazonas.
Professor of the Soil Department at the Federal University of Viçosa - e - Tinker Visiting Professor at the Universities of Stanford, CA and Wisconsin, WI, USA. Member of the honorary societies Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta, Chapter NCSU, USA; received the PPI Fellowships award given by the Potash and Phosphate Institute to the best foreign students' thesis projects in the USA in 1987. He holds a degree in Agronomy and a Master's (MS) in Soil Fertility from the Federal University of Viçosa and concluded the Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.) in Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry at North Carolina State University in 1988. He took sabbatical periods in 1994 at the University of California - Berkeley, working with Prof. Garrison Sposito, in 2001 at the Technical University of Munich (Germany) working with Prof. Udo Schwertmann and in 2009 at Stanford University, working with Prof. Scott Fendorf. He has great teaching experience teaching undergraduate courses in Soil Genesis and postgraduate courses in Soil Mineralogy and Soil Chemistry at UFV. Conducts research in several fields of Pedology with an emphasis on mineralogy and chemistry of highly weathered soils and heavy metals in soils, waters and plants, within the context of environmental pollution. He has published works with very good acceptance in the specialized literature, as evidenced by the bibliographic bases Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. He has also worked on several interfaces with other areas of Science, especially with Chemistry, in the areas of Analytical Elements and Environmental Chemistry and with Civil Engineering, in the area of Geotechnics.
