Paula Huber

Dr. Paula Huber is a biologist with experience in aquatic microbial ecology. The research she has performed has always been related to understanding the diversity and function of microorganisms and the processes they carry out in different systems. Initially, Paula obtained her Master Degree in Biology (2010) at UNRC University (Argentina). Afterwards Paula did her PhD (2012-2017, CONICET fellow) on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UNSAM University, Argentina) at the National Institute of Biotechnology (Argentina). The PhD thesis was focused in the study of picoplanktonic organisms, particularly Cyanobacteria. Combining traditional laboratory techniques with molecular biology, Paula studied the diversity and the ecological and functional role of freshwater picocyanobacteria. In 2017 Paula obtained a post-doctoral position (CONICET fellow) at the National Institute of Limnology (INALI, Argentina), where leaded a project aiming to study the diversity and structure of bacterial metacommunities of Paraná River in Argentina (the second largest river in South America). Currently Paula has a postdoctoral position at the Universidade Federal De São Carlos (Brazil) under the framework of AtlantECO project. Paula is mainly involved in the assemblage and analysis of existing and new genomic data into high-quality information, for a better understanding of the structure and function of the Atlantic Ocean microbiome. Also, as part of the Mission Microbiome and AtlantECO, Paula participated in the Amazon River Plume expedition dedicated to studying the impact of the Amazon River on the Atlantic Microbiome (being the chief scientist of the 6th and 7th legs). Paula also was on board of the laboratory-ship TARA between Punta Arenas to Cape Town as part of the transatlantic expedition and participated in the first part of the Ana Maria Gayoso expedition from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires on board B. Houssay. Besides, Paula collaborates or have collaborated in 12 interdisciplinary research projects. As result, she is the leading author of 4 scientific articles published in high-rank Journals (being corresponding author) and co-authored 19 other papers (google citations=203). On the educational side, from 2014 to 2017, Paula had a Teaching position at the UNSAM (Argentina), and taught five postgraduate courses. In addition, Paula is involved in training Masters and PhD students from different disciplines (microbial ecology, evolution, food industry) at different Argentinian and Brazilian institutes.

Paula Huber é doutora em Biologia Molecular e Biotecnologia graduada da Universidade Nacional de San Martín (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Desde o início de seu doutorado em 2012, Dr. Paula Huber tem se envolvido ativamente na pesquisa da ?ecologia microbiana?. Sua tese de doutorado (no Instituto Nacional de Biotecnologia, Chascomús, Argentina) centrou-se no estudo de organismos picoplanctônicos, particularmente cianobactérias, combinando técnicas de biologia molecular, microscopia e citometría de fluxo. Em 2017, realizou um pós-doutorado no Instituto Nacional Limnologia (Santa Fé, Argentina), onde liderou um projeto que visa o estudo da diversidade molecular de metacomunidades de bactérias no sistema de várzea fluvial do rio Paraná na Argentina. Atualmente Dra. Paula Huber tem uma posição de pós-doutorado na Universidade Federal de São Carlos (Brasil) no âmbito do projeto internacional AtlantECO desenvolvendo atividades principalmente relacionadas com a montagem e análise de dados genômicos para uma melhor compreensão da estrutura e função do microbioma do Oceano Atlântico. Além disso, como parte da Missão Microbioma e AtlantECO, participou da expedição Pluma do Rio Amazonas (sendo o cientista chefe da 6ª e 7ª etapas). Também esteve a bordo do navio-laboratório TARA entre Punta Arenas e Cidade do Cabo como parte da expedição transatlântica e participou da expedição Ana Maria Gayoso de Ushuaia a Buenos Aires a bordo do B. Houssay. A Dra. Paula Huber, também desenvolveu atividades de ensino: de 2014 a 2017, exerceu o cargo de Auxiliar Docente na Universidade Nacional de San Martín (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Além disso, entre 2017 e 2022, ministrou 5 disciplina de pós-graduação sobre análise de metagenomas e diversidade microbiana em diferentes instituições. Nos últimos anos também esteve ativamente envolvida na orientação de alunos de mestrado e doutorado nas diferentes disciplinas (ecologia microbiana, evolução, indústria de alimentos) em diferentes universidades e centros de pesquisa na Argentina e Brasil.
