Prof. Paulo Artaxo graduated in Physics from Universidade São Paulo (1977), master's degree in Nuclear Physics from USP (1980) and holds a PhD in Atmospheric Physics from USP (1985). He has worked at NASA (United States), Universities of Antwerp (Belgium), Lund (Sweden) and Harvard (United States). He is currently a professor at the Department of Applied Physics at the Institute of Physics at USP. He works with physics applied to environmental problems, working mainly on issues of global climate change, the environment in the Amazon, physics of atmospheric aerosols, urban air pollution and other topics. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (ACIESP). He has published 479 scientific papers and has presented over 1100 papers at international scientific conferences. He has 53,732 citations of his work in Researcher Gate, with an H-index of 116. He has 63,852 citations in Google Scholar, with a Google Scholar H-index of 118. He has 37,168 citations in Web of Science, with an h-index of 92. He has published 28 papers in the journals of the Science and Nature groups. He is a member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and several international scientific panels. He is the coordinator of the FAPESP Program on Global Climate Change, and a member of the INCT Climate Change. He was a representative of the scientific community at CONAMA from 2015 to 2019 and was a member of the Board of Environmental Sciences at CNPq from 2016 to 2019. He is vice president of SBPC, vice president of ACIESP and member of the Board of SBF. He is a member of the Guiding Committee of the Amazon Fund, the National Environmental Fund and the National Science and Technology Council. In 2004 he received a vote of applause from the Brazilian Senate for his scientific work on the environment in the Amazon. In 2006 he was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. He is a member of the IPCC team that was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. In 2007 he received the TWAS Earth Science Prize and the 2007 Dorothy Stang Prize for Science and Humanities. in Philosophy Honoris Causa from the University of Stockholm, Sweden. In 2010 he received the Fissan-Pui-TSI award from the International Aerosol Research Associations. He also received the Order of National Scientific Merit in 2010, as Commander, and in 2018 as Grand Cross. In 2016 he received the Almirante Álvaro Alberto Award granted by CNPq, Navy, MCTI and Conrad Wessel Foundation. He is CNPq Researcher Emeritus. In 2017 he received the Prêmio Globo Faz a Diferença. In 2021 he received the CONFAP Science and Technology award. He was included in the Clarivate Analytics list as one of the top 1 most cited researchers in the world in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Prof. Paulo Artaxo realizou sua graduação em Física pela Universidade São Paulo (1977), mestrado em Física Nuclear pela USP (1980) e é doutor em Física Atmosférica pela USP (1985). Em 2004 recebeu um voto de aplauso do Senado Brasileiro pelo trabalho científico em meio ambiente na Amazônia. Em 2006 foi eleito fellow da American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. É membro da equipe do IPCC que foi agraciada com o Prêmio Nobel da Paz de 2007. Em 2007 recebeu o prêmio de Ciências da Terra da TWAS e o Prêmio Dorothy Stang de Ciências e Humanidades de 2007. Em 2009 foi agraciado com o título de Doutor em Filosofia Honoris Causa pela Universidade de Estocolmo, Suécia. Em 2010 recebeu o prêmio Fissan-Pui-TSI da International Aerosol Research Associations. Também recebeu em 2010 a Ordem do Mérito Científico Nacional, na qualidade de comendador, e em 2018 na qualidade de Grão Cruz. Em 2016 recebeu o Prêmio Almirante Álvaro Alberto outorgado pelo CNPq, Marinha, MCTI e Fundação Conrad Wessel. É Pesquisador Emérito do CNPq. Em 2017 recebeu o Prêmio Globo Faz a Diferença. Em 2021 recebeu o prêmio CONFAP de Ciência e Tecnologia.
