José Augusto Duarte Lacerda

José ?Zeca? Lacerda is a percussionist and Professor of Music at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), Brazil. As a performer and advocate of new music, Zeca has worked with composers such as Bob Becker, Christian Wolff, Elliott Sharp, Gabriela Ortiz, George Lewis, James Romig, Jeff Herriott, John L. Adams, Lewis Nielson, Roberto Victorio, Steve Reich, Stuart Saunders Smith, Thomas DeLio, and others. In Brazil, he has performed with premier ensembles such as Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, and the chamber music group Abstrai Ensemble. He has released two albums through Soundset Recordings, including one with UFMT?s percussion ensemble [re]Percute UFMT, and has published articles in Percussive Notes, Rhythm! Scene, Per Musi, Musica Hodie, and other publications. Awards received include Percussive Arts Society and Zildjian scholarships. He earned a Doctor in Contemporary Music from Bowling Green State University, a Master in Music from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor?s in Music from the Federal University of Santa Maria.
Percussionista e professor de Percussão da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, onde coorderna o programa de extensão [re]Percute UFMT. Atuou com orquestras como a Singapore Symphony, a Sinfônica Brasileira e a Petrobras Sinfônica. Gravou para selos como New World Records e Soundset Recordings. Publicou em periódicos como Percussive Notes, Rhythm! Scene, Per Musi e Musica Hodie. Premiações incluem Percussive Arts Society, Zildjian e Secretaria de Cultura de Mato Grosso (edital Circula MT). É doutor em Música Contemporânea, com ênfase em Performance Instrumental pela Bowling Green State University (Ohio, EUA) e mestre em performance musical pela University of Miami (Florida, EUA).
