Helena Mannochio Russo

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, 2015), a Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from the São Paulo State University (UNESP/IQAr, 2018), and a doctorate degree also from the São Paulo State University (UNESP/IQAr, 2022). I carried out two internships at the Université de Genève (UNIGE, Switzerland - under the supervision of professors Emerson Queiroz and Jean-Luc Wolfender), the first being during my undergraduate studies (2013) and the second one during my master?s (2016/2017). In 2019/2020, I was a Visiting Scholar at Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of California San Diego, United States - under the supervision of Prof. Pieter Dorrestein), funded by the Fulbright Commission. Currently, I am a post-doctoral researcher at Pieter Dorrestein's Laboratory at UCSD (2022-present). I have experience in the field of Chemistry, with an emphasis on the Chemistry of Natural Products, with the main focus on the chemical, chemotaxonomic, metabolomic, and biological study of secondary metabolites produced by plants from the Brazilian biodiversity. Recently, my main projects involve employing data science tools for the reanalysis of public metabolomics datasets in order to explore the broad distribution of specific classes of compounds, such as bile acids. I am a member of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Metabolomics Society, and the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS). I have been a member of the SBQ Young Researchers Committee (JP-SBQ) since 2018, and currently, I am the Co-Chair of the committee (2022-2024).

Realizou doutorado-sanduíche em Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of California San Diego, Estados Unidos - sob orientação do Prof. Pieter Dorrestein), financiada pela Comissão Fulbright (2019/2020). Tem experiência na área de Química, com ênfase em Química de Produtos Naturais, atuando principalmente no estudo químico, metabolômico e biológico de metabólitos secundários produzidos por plantas da biodiversidade brasileira. Atualmente, realiza pós-doutorado na University of California San Diego sob supervisão do Prof. Pieter Dorrestein. É membro da Sociedade Brasileira de Química (SBQ) e da Metabolomics Society. Faz parte do Comitê de Jovens Pesquisadores da SBQ (JP-SBQ) desde 2018, e atualmente é vice-coordenadora do comitê (2022-2024).
