Alexandre Piantini

Foi vice-editor chefe do Journal of Lightning Research e atualmente é Editor do periódico Electric Power Systems Research e Editor Associado dos periódicos IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility e High Voltage. Coordena o CIGRE WG C4.67 (Lightning Protection of Hybrid Overhead Lines). Coordenou o CIGRE WG C4.408 (Lightning Protection of Low-Voltage Networks) e atuou como membro de vários outros grupos, como o CIGRE WG C4.407 (Lightning Parameters for Engineering Applications), o CIGRE WG C4.26 (Evaluation of Lightning Shielding Analysis Methods for EHV and UHV DC and AC Transmission Lines) e o Joint CIGRE-CIRED WG C4.402 (Protection of MV and LV networks against lightning). É o líder do Centro de Estudos em Descargas Atmosféricas e Alta Tensão (CENDAT/USP), coordenador do International Symposium on Lightning Protection (SIPDA) e membro dos comitês científicos de vários congressos internacionais, como a ICLP (International Conference on Lightning Protection) e ICHVE (International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application) e vice-chairman do GROUND&LPE (International Conf. on Grounding and Earthing & International Conf. on Lightning Physics and Effects). É membro fundador do Institute for Lightning Protection and Safety - ILPS, membro do Award Committee of the Sun & Grzybowski IEEE Award, oferecido pela Caixin Sun Education Foundation (Chongqing University, China) e Distinguished Lecturer da IEEE EMC Society (2021-2022).
Alexandre Piantini graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Paraná in 1985 and received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1991 and 1997, respectively. He joined the University of São Paulo in 1986 as Researcher with the Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE/USP) and currently teaches postgraduate courses in the areas of power quality and lightning transients at IEE/USP. Prof. Piantini is the head of the Lightning and High Voltage Research Center and has been responsible for several research projects related to lightning and power systems and involving theoretical and experimental developments, supported by power companies and governmental agencies. His research interests include modeling of lightning phenomena, lightning protection, power quality, and power systems electromagnetic transients.
