Luca Foschini

Main researcher for the ParticipAct project (participact.unibo.it) that aims to study novel solutions for crowdsensing and active participation of citizens in the Smart City management. In ParticipAct, Dr. Foschini is following all technical and non-technical aspect, including administrative ones such as contracts with telco operators, ingress/egress of student from the experiment, etc. Has experience in Computer Science, focusing on Computer Science. In the context of the COLOMBO FP7 EU founded project, Dr. Foschini is studying and realizing innovative solutions and protocols for traffic surveillance and traffic information dissemination aimed to foster innovative local intelligent traffic management and dynamic traffic light control algorithms.Dr. Foschini is exploring, also in the context of ongoing international collaborations (such as with IBM Dublin, Haifa, and US T.J Watson labs), various solutions for the management of complex Cloud systems, especially at the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) layers, in Smart City and big data for genomics application scenarios Luca Foschini, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Distributed and Mobile Systems at the Computer Science and Engineering Dept. (DISI) of the University of Bologna. He was recently habilitated as Associate Professor in the national examination called Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale 2012. His research interests span from middleware for mobile computing in general to adaptive multimedia, from context-aware service composition to federated cloud computing resource management, from mobile crowdsensing to scalable online stream processing for smart cities. From the point of view of his publication record (Google Scholar data ? July 2014: h-index=14; g-index=22; hc-index=15; citations=639), he has co-authored 27 international journal/magazine articles (in publication venues that are considered the excellent ones in his research field, such as ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE JSAC, IEEE TC, IEEE TPDS, IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Pervasive Computing, IEEE Communications, IEEE Wireless Communications, Elsevier FGCS, Elsevier PMC), guest-edited 2 special issues in international journals/magazines, co-authored 4 chapters in int. books, and over 40 additional works published in other int. venues (edited books, conferences, etc.). In addition, he has served as TPC Co-Chair of several international venues including: IEEE VTC-Fall?14, Transportation, Vehicular Networks, and Telematics track; IEEE MoCS workshop, various editions; ACM ADAMUS?09 workshop, IEEE IWCMC Wireless Networking symposium, various editions; and ACM Q2SWinet?14 symposium.
