Sergio Almeida Pacca

Professor associado do curso de graduação em Gestão Ambiental da Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades (EACH) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), e do curso de pós graduação em Sustentabilidade (PPGS-USP) . Coordenador do Curso de Graduação em Gestão Ambiental, desde abril de 2023. Foi coordenador do curso de Pós-graduação em Sustentabilidade entre 2016 e 2018 e do Núcleo de Pesquisa em Politica e Regulação de Emissões de Carbono (NUPPREC/NAP-USP) de 2011 a 2017. Editor Associado da revista Resources, Conservation Recycling. Foi Professor visitante e bolsista Fulbright na City University of New York (CUNY) em 2017. Professor visitante na Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) of Hiroshima University (2011). Professor visitante no programa de pós gradução na School for Renewable Energy Science, Akureyri, Islândia (2008, 2009 e 2010). Professor visitante no programa de pós-graduação na School of Natural Resources da University of Michigan (2005). Livre docente em Energia e Sustentabilidade pela Universidade de São Paulo (2011) Doutor em Energy and Resources pela University of California, Berkeley (2003). Mestre em energia pelo Programa Interunidades de Pós-Graduação em Energia (PIPGE-USP, 1996). Graduado em Ciências Sociais pela Faculdade de Filosofia Letras e Ciências Humanas (FFLCH-USP, 1992) e formado em Agronomia pela Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (Esalq-USP,1987). Membro da Sociedade Internacional de Ecologia Industrial. Pesquisador das áreas de energia, sustentabilidade, mudança climática global, avaliação do ciclo de vida (ACV) e ecologia industrial.
Sergio Pacca is associate professor at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH) of the University of São Paulo (USP). At USP, he is member of the Sustainability Graduate Program since 2012, and served as the chair of the program between March 2016 and July 2018 (sites.usp.br/sustentabilidade/en). He teaches in the Environmental Management Undergraduate Program since 2006, and he was responsible for the implementation of seven new courses at the University of Sao Paulo both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He was the director of the Research Group on Carbon Emissions Policy and Regulation (NUPPREC-USP) between 2011 and 2017, and member of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) since 2006. He is associate editor of the journal Resouces Conservation Recycling. He was the co-lead scholar of the Fulbright Nexus Program (2015-2016) and principal investigator in the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB)/ Sao Paulo Environmental Agency (Cetesb) project on Marginal Abatement Curve for the Sao Paulo State. In 2017 he was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the City University of New York (CUNY) in the US for the Fall Semester. In 2011, he was visiting the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) of Hiroshima University for 3 months. Between 2008 and 2010 he taught short courses on life cycle assessment (LCA) at the School for Renewable Energy Science in Iceland. He holds two undergraduate degrees in Agronomy (1988) and Social Sciences (1992) from the University of Sao Paulo. He holds a master in Energy from the University of Sao Paulo (1996) and a PhD in Energy from University of California at Berkeley (2003). His research focus on climate change mitigation policies through the assessment of low carbon technologies. He has collaborated in the assessment of bioenergy, especially sugarcane based carriers. The goal of such studies is determining the carbon balance of the system based on a comprehensive view of the carbon stocks and flows and considering multiple Technologies such as hybrid vehicles and bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS).
