He is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) and Director of Editora UFV. Graduated in AGRONOMY from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) (1985), Master in Genetics and Breeding UFV (1992), Ph.D. in Agronomy (Genetics and Plant Breeding) at the University of São Paulo - ESALQ (1999) and Post-doctorate from the University of Florida - Gainesville - USA (2011 - 2012). Advises Scientific initiation, master's and doctorate. He is co-advisor at UFG and UNEMAT. In the area of Genetics, with emphasis on Genetic Resources, acting on the following topics: genetic resources and improvement of Solanum lycopersicum (Tomato), Cucurbita sp. (pumpkin) and Capsicum chinense. Ecophysiology applied to sustainability in vegetable production via maximization of photosynthetic efficiency. Both in the field of phytotechnics and genetics and improvement, the reduction in the use of pesticides and the increase in the content of bioactive molecules is working hard.

Also with ABC and El Salvador, it coordinates a project aimed at characterizing the genetic resources of vegetables in that country. With the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) it promotes the organization of data from BGH - UFV accesses to be added to the ALELO VEGETAL platform, so that UFV accesses become part of the BRAZIL collection.
He was the president of the 51 Brazilian Congress of Horticulture, awarded by Who's Who in 2011 and 2017 for his contributions in the area of genetic resources. Possui graduação em AGRONOMIA pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) (1985), mestrado em Genética e Melhoramento UFV(1992), doutorado em Agronomia (Genética e Melhoramento de Plantas) pela Universidade de São Paulo - ESALQ (1999) e Pos-doutorado pela University of Florida - Gainesville - EUA (2011 - 2012).Orienta Iniciação científica, mestrado e doutorado. É co-orientador na UFG e na UNEMAT. Tem experiência na área de Genética, com ênfase em Recursos Genéticos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: recursos genéticos e melhoramento de Solanum lycopersicum (Tomate), Cucurbita sp. (abobora) e Capsicum chinense. Ecofisiologia aplicada visando sustentabilidade na produção de hortaliças via maximização da eficiência fotossintética. Tanto na área de fitotecnia quanto de genética e melhoramento trabalha visando a redução do uso de agrotóxicos e aumento do conteúdo de moléculas bioativas.
Foi Chefe do Departamento de Fitotecnia, atual Departamento de Agronomia, de maio de 2015 a maio de 2019. Coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Genética e Melhoramento - UFV (2015), Membro da Comissão coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Fitotecnia - UFV (11/2014 a 05/2015).
Atualmente faz parte do EUCARPIA Genetic Resources section member. , Editor cientifico da Revista Horticultura Brasileira e da Acta Biologica Colombiana. Associado fundador da Sociedade Brasileira de Recursos genéticos. Membro do Relatório BRASIL sobre Recursos Genéticos Vegetais para a Alimentação e a Agricultura ? período de 2012 a 2019, atendendo demanda da FAO. Desenvolve o projeto ConservaIn junto a EMBRAPA desde 01/06/2021 com termino previsto para 31/12/2024 onde é o responsável pelo Levantamento de informações relacionadas a conservação in situ e on farm na região Sudeste. Desenvolve pesquisa sobre Cannabis medicinal junto North Caroline State University, Como o Ministério do Exterior via Agência Brasileira de Cooperação (ABC) coordena projeto Brasil-Botswana visando fortalecimento do cooperativismo. Ainda junto a ABC e El Salvador coordena projeto visando caracterizar recursos genéticos de hortaliças daquele pais. Com o Ministério da Agricultura (MAPA) promove a organização dos dados dos acessos BGH - UFV para serem adicionados à plataforma ALELO VEGETAL, para que os acessos UFV passem a fazer parte da coleção BRASIL.
Foi o presidente do 51 Congresso Brasileiro de Olericultura, premiado pela Who's Who em 2011 e 2017 por suas contribuições na área de recursos genéticos. Membro do CAE - Conselho de Avaliação Externo da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária e consultor ad-hoc de projetos científicos junto as seguintes secretarias: Secretaria de Ciência e Tecnologia do estado do Tocantins, Secretaria de Ciência e Tecnologia do estado do Maranhão e Secretária de Ciência e Tecnologia do Estado da Bahia. É Membro do Comitê Estratégico Soja Brasil (CESB) desde junho 2018.
