Paulo Pachá is Assistant Professor of Medieval History at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) since 2019. He is a historian specialized in the history of Early Medieval Europe with an emphasis in the political and economic history of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo. He received his PhD in History in 2015 from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), with a thesis on the structure and dynamics of the Visigothic state in the seventh century. Paulo is a member of the "Centro Ciro Cardoso de Pesquisa do Pré-Capitalismo (CCCP-PréK)" and "PEM - Programa de Estudos Medievais", both research groups in Brazil, and of ?TOLETUM ? Red para la investigación sobre la Península Ibérica en la Antigüedad?. He has published several articles, book chapters and book reviews on the history of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo and presented his work at conferences in South America and Europe. After receiving his doctorate, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Hamburg Universität (with a fellowship from the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung) and a Visiting Researcher at the Institut für Mittelalterforschung in Vienna (with a fellowship from the Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften). During his doctorate, Paulo was awarded two research fellowships in Madrid, both at the Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales (CCHS-CSIC) and the Casa de Velázquez. Prior to becoming Assistant Professor at UFRJ, he was Assistant Professor at UFF (2017-2019) and Lecturer in Medieval History at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (2014-2016), both in Rio de Janeiro.

Realizou pesquisa pós-doutoral no Institut für Mittelalterforschung (Viena - Áustria, 2016), com bolsa de pesquisa da Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (programa Joint Excellence in Science & Humanities); e também na Universität Hamburg (Hamburgo - Alemanha, 2016-2017), com bolsa da Fritz Thyssen Stiftung. Foi Professor horista de História Medieval na Fundação Getúlio Vargas (2014-2016) e Professor Adjunto de História Medieval na Universidade Federal Fluminense - Campos dos Goytacazes (2017-2019).
Tem experiência na área de História, com ênfase em História Medieval, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: História do Reino Visigodo, relações de poder, economia medieval, etnicidade e apropriações contemporâneas do passado medieval.
