The author is a recent Ph.D. who has reconciled his academic activity (teaching and research) with practice and sports technical guidance (as a coach and high performance teams analyst). Its training and education areas went through computers, science education and physical education and sport. In research he works with observational methodology, which has proven repeatedly and well established as exceptionally useful in the field of research in sport and physical activity, for conceptual, methodological and technological investigation procedures and development. The research interest are related to performance analysis of team sports tactical behavior, using mixed methods design: categorical data and continuous data (positional data, heart rate, etc..) in order to find effective nonlinear measures for assessing performance in invasive team sports. The aim is to find and apply variables that can be used to assess tactical performance in team sports, in both game and practice sessions. This research line has allowed to contribute with applied knowledge to clubs and sports institutions with valid and feasible observation and tracking instruments. Besides the tactical performance, physical and technique indicators seems to matter when regarding to a long term athletes sports career. So regarding this matter, and giving an holistic perspective, there's a need to develop a proper methods for monitor and assess training and exercise programs in sports, while maintaining the tactical assessment. This will allow a complementary work in monitoring training and exercise programs in sports training and with this continuous project development, all can be used as well for game information, to give a better coach education, and to start new IT projects in order to optimize procedures and in new environments and tools, such as 3D virtual world or virtual reality and natural user interfaces, respectively.
