Hercílio Barbosa da Silva Júnior concluiu bacharelado em Psicologia em 2004 pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás e Pós-Graduação em Neuropsicologia em 2009 pela Faculdade Internacional de Curitiba. Ao longo de sua trajetória profissional, teve a oportunidade de atuar como psicólogo clínico e neuropsicólogo, atendendo crianças e adolescentes em situação de vulnerabilidade social; pacientes com sequelas neurológicas decorrentes de lesões cerebrais e medulares; e também trabalhou com estimulação precoce de crianças com transtornos do neurodesenvolvimento.
Foi chefe do Departamento de Reabilitação Neuropsicológica do CRER Centro Estadual de Reabilitação (2011-2016), em Goiânia, onde era responsável por avaliações neuropsicológicas, planejamento e condução de planos de reabilitação com a equipe multidisciplinar e mensuração de resultados. Devido ao seu interesse em neurociências, especialmente tecnologias aplicadas à neurorreabilitação, aprofundou seus conhecimentos sobre técnicas de Estimulação Cerebral Não-Invasivas (NIBS), especificamente Estimulação Transcraniana por Corrente Contínua (tDCS) e Estimulação Magnética Transcraniana (TMS). Hercílio auxiliou na implantação do laboratório de Neuromodulação do CRER, onde também desenvolveu atividades de pesquisa, incluindo coleta/análise de dados, redação científica, confecção e apresentação de pôsteres em eventos científicos locais e nacionais.
Participou de treinamentos no Brasil e no exterior para uso de eletroencefalograma (EEG) e potenciais relacionados a eventos (ERPs), bem como intervenções com tDCS e TMS. Os cursos complementares incluem o treinamento "Clinical Assessments and Intervention Updates in Neurorehabilitation", realizado na Harvard Medical School (2014); "Formação em Mapeamento Cerebral com QEEG e Neuroterapias: Introdução ao QEEG e Neuromodulação", em Madrid (2017-2018); entre outros.
Seu interesse pelas NIBS aplicadas à neurorreabilitação o levou a concluir o Mestrado em Ciências da Saúde (2015-2017) na Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Goiás. Durante o mestrado, realizou duas investigações: a primeira foi um estudo experimental, que resultou na publicação do artigo ?Estimulação Magnética Transtraniana repetitiva melhora os sintomas depressivos e a qualidade de vida de pacientes pós-AVC ? estudo prospectivo de série de casos? no ?Journal of Central Nervous System Disease? (doi:10.1177/1179573519871304); e a segunda, que resultou em sua dissertação final e posteriormente em um capítulo de livro (DOI:10.22533/at.ed.83019231) intitulado ?Pesquisadores em Estimulação Magnética Transcraniana no Brasil? - um estudo de estado-da-arte em que mapeou todos pesquisadores e grupos de pesquisa cadastrados utilizando TMS no país;
Em 2016 fundou o Neuronus (www.neuronus.com.br), um instituto de ensino e pesquisa que oferece atendimento clínico, treinamentos e atualização em NIBS para equipes multidisciplinares de reabilitação, além de organizar e promover eventos na área de neurociências. Desde então, Hercílio tem investido em networking e expedições científicas e, além disso, tem apresentado resultados clínicos mundialmente nas principais conferências da área de Neuromodulação.
Atualmente, como aluno de doutorado na Universidade de Aveiro (UA), está filiado ao William James Research Center e colabora no Laboratório de Neuropsicologia Translacional (TNPsy Lab) da UA sob a orientação da Professora Dra. Sandra Carvalho, auxiliando inclusive no treinamento em NIBS de alunos mestrandos.
Hercílio Barbosa da Silva Júnior, received his bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2004 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás and Postgraduate degree in Neuropsychology in 2009 (International Faculty of Curitiba). Throughout his professional career, he had the opportunity to work as a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, assisting children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability; patients with neurological sequelae due to brain and spinal cord injuries; and he also worked with early stimulation of children with neurodevelopment disorders.
He was head of the Neuropsychological Rehabilitation Deparment of CRER Centro Estadual de Reabilitação(2011-2016), in Goiânia, where he was responsible for the neuropsychological assessments, planning and conducting rehabilitation plans with the multidisciplinary team, and outcomes measurement. Due to his interest in neurosciences, especially technologies applied to neurorehabilitation, he deepened his knowledge of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation techniques (NIBS), specifically Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(TMS). Hercílio assisted in the implementation of the NIBS laboratory at CRER, where he also carried out research activities, including data collection/analysis, scientific writing, making and presenting posters at local and national scientific events.
He participated in trainings in Brazil and abroad to use electroencephalogram(EEG) and event-related potentials(ERPs), as well as interventions with tDCS and TMS. Complementary courses include the "Clinical Assessments and Intervention Updates in Neurorehabilitation" training, held at Harvard Medical School(2014); "Training in Brain Mapping with QEEG and Neurotherapies: Introduction to QEEG and Neuromodulation", in Madrid(2017-2018); among others.
His interest in NIBS applied to neurorehabilitation led him to complete the Master's Degree in Health Sciences(2015-2017) at the Medical School of the Federal University of Goiás. During his master, he conducted two investigations: the first was an experimental study, which resulted in the publication of the article ?Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Improves Depressive Symptoms and Quality of Life of Poststroke Patients?Prospective Case Series Study? in the ?Journal of Central Nervous System Disease? (doi:10.1177/1179573519871304); and the second, which resulted in his final dissertation and a book chapter (DOI:10.22533/at.ed.83019231) entitled ?Researchers in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Brazil? - a state-of-the-art study in which he mapped all registered researchers and research groups using TMS in the country; In both works he was responsible for data collection/analysis, selection and screening of participants, submission to the ethics committee, and all stages of writing, submitting, editing and getting approval from the journals.
In 2016 he founded Neuronus (www.neuronus.com.br), an educational and research institute that provides outpatient care, trainings and updating in NIBS to multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, as well as organizes and promotes events in the field of neurosciences. Since then, Hercílio has invested in networking and scientific expeditions and, in addition, he has presented clinical results worldwide in the main conferences of the Neuromodulation field.
Currently, as a PhD student at the University of Aveiro (UA), he is affiliated with the William James Research Center and collaborates in the Laboratory of Translational Neuropsychology(TNPsy Lab) at UA under the supervision of Professor Dr. Sandra Carvalho, assisting in the training of master's students in NIBS techniques, specifically tDCS.
