Marcio L. Rodrigues é Farmacêutico (1995) e Doutor em Ciências (2000) pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Foi membro do Comitê Assessor (CA) de Microbiologia e Parasitologia do CNPq, ocupando a função de coordenador do CA entre 2019 e 2021. É membro titular (2020) da Academia Americana de Microbiologia e foi conselheiro eleito da Sociedade Americana de Micologia Médica (MMSA). Foi cofundador e é o coordenador brasileiro da Unidade Internacional de Pesquisa do Instituto Pasteur denominada "Fungal Extracellular Vesicles", sediada na Fiocruz-PR. É editor de mini-revisões no periódico mBio, editor de seção (Micologia) da PLOS Neglected and Tropical Diseases, editor sênior no periódico IMA Fungus e pertence aos quadros editoriais dos periódicos Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology, eLife e Infection and Immunity. Foi professor visitante Fulbright da Escola de Saúde Pública Bloomberg da Johns Hopkins University. Em 2014, foi agraciado com o Pathfinder Award para Ciências Translacionais do Wellcome Trust (UK). Atualmente, atua na Coordenação Geral do Programa Inova Fiocruz (https://portal.fiocruz.br/programa-inova-fiocruz). Como pesquisador da Fiocruz, os interesses principais do grupo liderado por Marcio L. Rodrigues concentram-se no estudo da arquitetura da superfície celular de patógenos fúngicos e na exportação de biomoléculas através de vesículas extracelulares, visando desenvolvimento de fármacos antifúngicos e ferramentas profiláticas.
Márcio L. Rodrigues is a Pharmacist (1995) and holds a Doctorate in Sciences (2000) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He was a member of the Advisory Committee (CA) for Microbiology and Parasitology of CNPq, serving as the coordinator of CA between 2019 and 2021. He is a Fellow (2020) of the American Academy of Microbiology and was an elected councilor of the Medical Mycology Society of America (MMSA). He co-founded and is the Brazilian coordinator of the Pasteur Institute's International Research Unit named "Fungal Extracellular Vesicles," based at Fiocruz-PR. He is an editor of mini-reviews in the journal mBio, section editor (Mycology) of PLOS Neglected and Tropical Diseases, senior editor at IMA Fungus journal, and serves on the editorial boards of the journals Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology, eLife, and Infection and Immunity. He was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2014, he was awarded the Pathfinder Award for Translational Sciences by the Wellcome Trust (UK). Currently, he works in the General Coordination of the Inova Fiocruz Program (https://portal.fiocruz.br/programa-inova-fiocruz). As a researcher at Fiocruz, the main interests of the group led by Marcio L. Rodrigues focus on studying the cell surface architecture of fungal pathogens and the export of biomolecules through extracellular vesicles, aiming at the development of antifungal drugs and prophylactic tools.
