Bacharel em Ciências Biológicas (2004), Mestre (2006) e Doutor (2014) em Ciências - Botânica pela Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS), com período sanduíche no Smithsonian Institution em Washington D.C. e no Royal Botanic Gardens, em Kew, Inglaterra. Tem experiência principalmente nos seguintes temas: morfologia vegetal, taxonomia e sistemática vegetal, inventário florístico, coleções de herbários, Malvaceae, filogenia, biogeografia. Atuou em inventários e diagnósticos de flora e vegetação na Amazônia Central, Caatinga, Cerrado e Mata Atlântica do nordeste do Brasil. Recebeu um prêmio do Smithsonian Institution (José Cuatrecasas Award-2012) e dois prêmios (2021, 2022) do D.I.G. (Diversity Inventory Group), Madison-E.U.A., pela pesquisa desenvolvida em Malvaceae. É Professor Adjunto na Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco (UNIVASF), em exercício no Departamento de Biologia da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE), campus Recife. Atualmente, atua principalmente em projetos de pesquisa acadêmica relacionados à taxonomia e sistemática de Malvaceae, com ênfase na subfamília Bombacoideae; à germinação de sementes em Bombacoideae; e a estudos integrando taxonomia, biogeografia e evolução cito-molecular de linhagens selecionadas de plantas terrestres.
Bachelor's degree in Biology (2004), Master's degree (2006) and PhD (2014) in Botany at Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS), Bahia, Brazil. I have interest on Botany, specially floristics, systematics, evolution and biogeography of Malvaceae. I have expertise in environmental impact assessment studies and angiosperm floristic surveys in both seasonally dry tropical forests and wet forests in Brazil, where I collected plants primarily deposited in HUEFS, INPA, and HVASF herbaria. My main pre-doctoral experiences were in the Project "Floristic Inventory of the Uatumã Biological Reserve, Central Amazonia, Brazil" (2006-2007) when I was CNPq postmaster scholarship at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) and in the Project "Inventory, monitoring, and rescue of flora of areas in the Rio São Francisco" as Biologist at Federal University of Vale do São Francisco - UNIVASF (2008-2010). I was granted by The Smithsonian Institution's 2012 Cuatrecasas Award and by a sandwich doctorate scholarship by CNPq/CAPES in collaboration with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. I have also been granted (2021 and 2022) by DIG (Diversity Inventory Group), Madison. I am Full Professor at UNIVASF (Petrolina, Pernambuco) since 2016 and currently on exercise at Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE) in Recife, Pernambuco. Recently, I have been involved especially in academic research related to the taxonomic monograph of selected genera of Bombacoideae (Malvaceae) for the Brazilian Flora 2020 Project (http://floradobrasil.jbrj.gov.br/), to the role of kapok on seed germination of Bombacoideae and to studies integrating taxonomy, biogeography and cito-molecular evolution of selected embryophyte lineages.
