Maira Borges Fainguelernt

Geographer with a PhD in Environment and Society from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). She has an interdisciplinary background and for over 10 years has been deepening her experience in the Brazilian Amazon with a focus on environmental licensing, protected areas, riverine populations and impacts of large dams. She is an associate researcher of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) thematic project entitled "After the hydroelectric power plants: social and environmental processes that occur after the construction of Belo Monte, Jirau and Santo Antônio in the Brazilian Amazon", associate editor of the Journal Environment and Society (ANPPAS), collaborator of the extension and culture program of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Uni-Rio) and member of the Latin American Network SARS-CoV2, Power and Society of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO). Currently, she coordinates projects in the Legal Amazon at the Climate and Society Institute (iCS) which are part of the Land Use and Food Systems portfolio with focus on promoting more social and environmental justice among indigenous peoples and traditional communities and contributing to the conservation of socio-biodiversity in the region.

Geógrafa e doutora em Ambiente e Sociedade pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Possui uma trajetória interdisciplinar e há mais de 10 anos vem aprofundando sua experiência na Amazônia brasileira com foco em licenciamento ambiental, áreas protegidas, populações ribeirinhas e impactos de grandes usinas hidrelétricas. Atualmente, é pesquisadora associada do projeto temático da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) intitulado ?Depois das hidrelétricas: processos sociais e ambientais que ocorrem depois da construção de Belo Monte, Jirau e Santo Antônio na Amazônia brasileira?, editora associada da Revista Ambiente e Sociedade (ANPPAS), colaboradora do programa de extensão e Cultura da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Uni-Rio) e integrante da Rede Latino-Americana SARS-CoV2, Poder e Sociedade da Faculdade Latino-Americana de Ciências Sociais (FLACSO). No Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS) coordena projetos na Amazônia Legal que integram o portfólio de Uso da Terra e Sistemas Alimentares com o objetivo de promover mais justiça social e ambiental entre povos indígenas e comunidades tradicionais e contribuir para a conservação da sociobiodiversidade na região.
