Riggins, MD PhD is the Irving J. Sherman MD Research Professor of Neurosurgery and Oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is the director of the Ludwig Collaborative Laboratory and Director of the Division of Neurosurgery Research. Dr. Riggins has directed the Brain Cancer Biology and Therapy Laboratory at Johns Hopkins since 2003. Its mission is to locate and analyze molecular targets for glioblastomas, medulloblastomas, meningiomas and MPNSTs. Our goal is to develop new therapies for these tumors and understand better the genetic and functional basis of brain cancer. Dr. Riggins did his post-doctoral fellowship with Drs. Bert Vogelstein and Ken Kinzler where he cloned SMAD genes and identified mutations. He helped identify FMR-1 as a M.D/Ph.D. student in Dr. Steve Warren s lab at Emory University, graduating in 1994. He has a M.S. in Bioengineering from Penn State and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware.
