Marialice da Fonseca Ferreira da Silva

graduated in Biomedicine from Rio de Janeiro University (2002). Started her scientific activities in the lab of Prof Dr Helene Santos Barbosa (actual LBE - Laboratory of Structural Biology). Did her Master (2004) and PhD studies in the same lab, in Cell and Molecular Biology (LBE/ Oswaldo Cruz Institute/ FIOCRUZ (2008). She investigated the biology of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii and its stage conversion on Skeletal Muscle Cells - pioneering project of this lab. Did part of her PhD in Parasitology, at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen - Institute for Medical Microbiology (2007). Did her first Postdoc with Prof. Juergen Hescheler e Prof. Tomo Saric, investigating human and mouse iPS cells at the Institute for Neurophysiology. Afterwards, she worked at the Institute for Genetics with Prof Jonathan Howard, investigating the role of the IRG porteins against intracellular parasites. Currently, after 2 years of maternal leave, she works for CECAD, Cologne Cluster of Excellence in Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases, investigating REDOX mechanisms against intracellular parasites, with Prof Martin Krönke, actual director of the Microbiology Institute from the University of Cologne.

possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas - Modalidade Médica pela Universidade do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO)(2002). Iniciou a carreira científica com a Dra Helene Santos Barbosa (chefe do atual LBE - Laboratório de Biologia Estrutural). Fez Mestrado e Doutorado em Biologia Celular e Molecular pelo IOC/FIOCRUZ (2008) no mesmo laboratório, investigando a biologia do parasita Toxoplasma gondii e a estágio conversao do parasita em células musculares esqueléticas, projeto pioneiro do LBE. Desenvolveu parte de seu doutorado na Universidade de Göttingen, na Alemanha, com projeto financiado em colaboraçao DAAD-CAPES/KAAD no Instituto de Microbiologia Médica. Após defender seu doutorado no Brasil, se mudou para Colônia e fez um Postdoc no Instituto de Neurofisiologia, investigando "célula tronco pluripotente induzida" (iPS), com o Prof. Juergen Hescheler e Prof. Tomo Saric e no Instituto de Genética (2009-2013), no laboratório do Prof Jonathan Howard, atual diretor do Instituto Gulbenkian de Pesquisa, investigando o papel das proteínas IRG (p47 GTPases), um dos mais fortes sistemas de resistência à parasitas intracelulares já descrito. Atualmente é Postdoc do "Cologne Cluster of Excellence in Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases" (CECAD) e trabalha com com o Prof. Martin Krönke, diretor do Instituto de Microbiologia Médica da Universidade de Colônia.
