Ana Carolina Correa de Sousa

Doutora em Ciências Farmacêuticas pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2016). Mestre em Ciências Farmacêuticas pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2012). Tem experiência na área de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento de Fármacos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: química farmacêutica e medicinal, modelagem molecular, síntese orgânica, doenças tropicais infecciosas e doenças negligenciadas com maior foco em malária. Com experiência em docência na Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Escola Politécnica de Saúde Joaquim Venâncio - FIOCRUZ, Universidade Salgado de Oliveira, Universidade Celso Lisboa e UFRRJ. Atuou como pesquisadora de pós doutorado no Laboratório de Modelagem Molecular e QSAR (Faculdade de Farmácia-UFRJ) sob a supervisão do Prof. Dr. Carlos Rangel Rodrigues na área de síntese e modelagem molecular de novos derivados heterocíclicos com atividade antiparasitária (2016). Sob a supervisão do Prof. Timothy J. Egan foi pesquisadora de pós doutorado na Universidade da Cidade do Cabo (University of Cape Town) de 2017 a 2020 com bolsa de pesquisa do National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (USA) com o projeto Developing a virtual screening tool to discover new chemical entities with antimalarial activity. Voluntária do Movimento de Reintegração das Pessoas Atingidas pela Hanseníase (MORHAN) prestando assessoria e consultoria. Trabalhou como assistente de pesquisa pela Sasakawa Health Foundation para a Dra. Alice Cruz, Relatora Especial das Nações Unidas para a eliminação da discriminação contra pessoas afetadas pela hanseníase e seus familiares. Atualmente faz pós doutorado no Laboratório de Tecnologia Industrial Farmacêutica (LabTIF) na Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.

I am a pharmacist, I have a MSc and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. My academic experience is focused on drug design of new drugs, acting mainly on pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry applying computer aided drug design for infectious tropical diseases, specially for malaria. With teaching experience at the UFRJ, Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health - FIOCRUZ, Salgado de Oliveira University, Celso Lisboa University and Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ. I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Molecular Modelling and QSAR Laboratory (Faculty of Pharmacy-UFRJ) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carlos Rangel Rodrigues in the area of synthesis and molecular modelling of new heterocyclic derivatives with antiparasitic activity. From 2017 to 2020, under the supervision of Prof. Timothy J. Egan I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry- University of Cape Town with a research grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (USA) developing the project ?The virtual screening as a tool to discover new chemical entities with antimalarial activity?. I am also a volunteer of the Movement for the Reintegration of People Affected by Hansen?s disease (MORHAN) where I have being working providing technical advice and consultancy. I worked as a Research assistant at the Sasakawa Health Foundation for Dr. Alice Cruz, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy and their family members. Currently doing a post doctoral research at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (LabTIF).
