Livio Sansone is a professor at the Department of Anthropology at UFBA, holds a degree in Sociology - Universita degli Studi La Sapienza (1980), a Master's in Anthropology - Universiteit van Amsterdam (1986) and a PhD in Anthropology - Universiteit van Amsterdam (1992). He was a researcher at the Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and deputy scientific director of the Center for Afro-Asian Studies at UCAM, Rio de Janeiro. He is currently professor of anthropology at the Federal University of Bahia and researcher at the Center for Afro-Oriental Studies at FFCH / UFBA and is part of the Multidisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Ethnic and African Studies. He is an ad hoc consultant for CAPES, FAPESP, CNPq, Facep and Fapesb. He is on the Editorial Board of Afro-Ásia and Cadernos de Campo magazines. Has experience in the field of Anthropology, with an emphasis on Anthropology of Afro-Brazilian Populations, working on the following topics: racial hierarchies and durable inequalities, young people, globalization, consumption, heritage of Afro-Brazilian culture and blackness, Black Atlantic, international transit of ideas of 'race' and emancipation from racism in the South Atlantic, history of anthropology and its relationship with racism and colonialism. He is currently conducting research on the intellectual biography of Eduardo Mondlane. With a national team he has been developing, for some years now, the project for the creation of the Digital Museum of African Memory in Brazil-www.museuafrodigital.ufba.br. He coordinates the Postgraduate Extension Program at UFBA Fábrica de Ideias, which annually organizes, for 20 years, an international doctoral school-www.fabricadeideias.info. He is the author, among others, of Blackness Without Ethnicity, New York: Palgrave 2003 (Negritude sem Etnicidade, Salvador: Edufba 2004) and La Galassia Lombroso, l' Africa e l' America Latina (2022, Laterza, Italy), and organizer, together with Claudio Furtado, from the Critical Dictionary of Social Sciences of Portuguese Speaking Countries (Salvador: Edufba, 2014). More recent articles in English are available in the online journals Vibrant, Codesria Bulletin, Historia, Ciências, Saúde - Manguinhos, Berose and Rockefeller Archive Center Research Reports. His latest book is Estacao etngrafica Bahia. The transnational making of Afro-Brazilian anthropology in the 1940s and the role of Lorenzo Turner, E. Franklin Frazier and Frances & Melville Herskovits (EdUnicamp and, in English, Brill/Open Access). He is an associate professor in the Africa Multiple Program at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. From September 2021 to January 2022 he was visiting professor at the Institute of Latin American Studies (IHEAL), Sorbonne-Nouvelle, Paris. Tem experiência na área de Antropologia, com ênfase em Antropologia das Populações Afro-Brasileiras, atuando nos seguintes temas: hierarquias raciais e desigualdades duráveis, jovens, globalização, consumo, patrimonalização da cultura afro-brasileira e da negritude, Atlântico Negro, trânsito internacional das ideias de 'raça' e de emancipação do racismo no Atlântico Sul, história da antropologia e de sua relação com racismo e colonialismo. Atualmente realiza pesquisa sobre a biografia intelectual de Eduardo Mondlane.
