Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has a high prevalence affecting 5-10% of the worldwide adult population. End stage renal disease (ESRD) is a major health problem associated with CKD progression and presents a significant morbidity and mortality particularly in elderly population (with a mean life expectancy of only 2.5 years). Each year 100,000 new cases of ESRD are reported in U.S. (Annual Data Report-The United States Renal Data System- http://www.usrds.org/). Anemia is a co-morbidity factor and a frequent manifestation in patients progressing from CKD to ESRD.We have been interested these last years in the study of pathogenic mechanisms of glomerulonephritis (GN) which constitute an important cause of ESRD. The main goal of our team is to identify new potential therapeutic targets to treat immune-mediated GN.
