Torkjell Leira

Possui mestrado em Geografia Humana - University of Oslo (2001). Trabalhou durante dez anos em ONGs norueguesas nas areas de meio ambiente, protecão da floresta amazônica, mudancas climaticas e direitos indigenas, sempre com atuacão geografica no Brasil e na Amazônia (Brasil, Peru, Venezuela).Hoje trabalha na Universidade de Oslo (UiO) e coordena um novo projeto de pesquisas em biodiversidade na Amazônia oriental. Ajudou a construir o Consorcio de Pesuisas em Biodiversidade Brasil-Noruega (BRC) que consiste da propria UiO, a mineradora norueguesa Hydro, a Universidade Federal do Para (UFPA), o Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi (MPEG) e a Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (UFRA).Acabou de publicar um livro sobre o Brasil contemporâneo em norueguês, "Brasil - kjempen v kner" (Brasil - o gigante esta acordando) e gerencia um blog sobre o Brasil e a Amazônia (www.brasileira.no).

Torkjell Leira holds a master's in Human Geography from the University of Oslo (2001). He has worked for ten years in Norwegian NGOs, always with the environment, protection of the Amazon rainforest, climate change and indigenous rights issues and with a geographical focus on Brazil and the Amazon (Brazil, Peru, Venezuela).Today, he works at the University of Oslo (UiO) coordinating a new project for biodiversity research in the Eastern Amazon. He helped build the new Biodiversity Research Consortium Brazil-Norway (BRC) that consists of UiO, the Norwegian aluminium company Hydro, the Federal University of Para (UFPA), the Emilio Goeldi Museum (MPEG) and the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA).Torkjell just published a book about contemporary Brazil in Norwegian, "Brasil - Kjempen v kner" (Brazil - The Giant Awakens) and runs a blog about Brazil and the Amazon (www.brasileira.no).
