He holds a degree in Civil Engineering, a Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Natural Resources from the Federal University of Campina Grande (2018). He held a doctorate sandwich at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia of the University of Lisbon in 2017. Since 2012 he has been a professor at the Center for Sustainable Development of the Semiarid at UFCG and works in the postgraduate program in Civil and Environmental Engineering (PPGECA-UFCG), with master's and doctoral guidance. His main research interests are the application of remote sensing techniques for energy, carbon and water fluxes and balance, and soil cover change studies in the Brazilian semi-arid region. John has been involved in several international research projects with institutions in Africa, Europe and the USA with his research linked to Mediterranean and semi-arid climate regions. He has worked as a researcher at the Center for Forestry Research at the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and at the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol (UK).
Possui graduação em Engenharia Civil, mestrado em Engenharia Civil e Ambiental e doutorado em Recursos Naturais pela Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (2018). Realizou doutorado sanduíche no Instituto Superior de Agronomia da Universidade de Lisboa. Desde 2012 é professor do Centro de Desenvolvimento Sustentável do Semiárido da UFCG e atua no programa de pós-graduação em Engenharia Civil e Ambiental (PPGECA-UFCG), com orientações de mestrado e doutorado. Seus principais interesses de pesquisa são aplicação de técnicas de sensoriamento remoto para o balanço de energia, carbono e água, e estudos de mudança de cobertura do solo no semiárido Brasileiro. John esteve envolvido em vários projetos internacionais de pesquisa com instituições da África, Europa e EUA com sua pesquisa ligada as regiões de clima mediterrâneo e semiárido. Tem trabalhado com pesquisadores do Centro de Pesquisas Florestais da Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal) e na Escola de Ciências Geográficas da Universidade de Bristol (Inglaterra).
