Karen Santo Athie

I was originally trained as a psychologist and hold a Phd in Primary Health Care Systems. Nowadays, I?m in charge of Planning and Support for the Psychosocial Services Network and Vulnerable Populations in Rio State, Brazil. My work involves policymaking for people with mental health problems, prison populations, Afro-Brazilians, immigrants, Amerindians, gender and sexual diversity. In addition, I also focus on innovative healthcare methods to engage and empower service users and professionals to participate in processes of policy and legislation development, by strengthening networks and promoting meaningful application of evidence-based practice. I published on issues concerning primary mental health systems and policies, as well as integration of services.
bachelor's at Psicologia from Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (1999) and master's at Etudes Feminines from Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis (2001). Has experience in Collective Health, focusing on Collective Health, acting on the following subjects: atenção primária, saúde mental, interdisciplinariadade, matriciamento and atencao basica.
