Fernando Sequeira is Auxiliary Researcher at CIBO-InBIO, University of Porto. He has extensive experience in the field of population genetics, phylogeography, structure, dynamics and evolution of hybrid zones. He graduated in Biology, University of Porto, in 1996, having completed his MSc and PhD in July 2000 and December 2006, respectively, both at the University of Porto. He has authored 40 articles published in journals of recognized scientific merit, possessing around 700 citations and h-index of 16. These articles have been published in relevant journals in the area, such as Molecular Ecology, Journal of Biogeography, BMC Evolutionary Biology, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution and Organisms, Diversity and Evolution, one of them in a major multidisciplinary scientific journals (PNAS). He also published a book and three book chapters. He was either supervisor or co-supervisor of four PhD theses and four MSc theses. He was the Principal Investigator (PI) in 3 research projects, two FCT R&D projects, and one Transnational Cooperation Project FCT/CAPES. He has participated as research team member in more than 10 projects, 7 of which financed by international institutions. He has experience as a teacher, mainly at postgraduate level. He taught practical and theoretical classes in the CIBIO/ University of Porto Doctoral Program in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution and in several other postgraduate courses of foreign institutions, including: i) Postgraduate Science in Development Program, Cape Verde ); Ii) Master's Degree in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at Pablo de Olavide University and Donaña Biological Station (CSIC), Seville, Spain; Iii) Postgraduate Program in Ecology, UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). He is currently the group leader of the Tropical Biology research group of CIBIO-InBIO (TROPBIO). He integrates the Direction Board of CIBIO-InBIO since 2015.

Licenciou-se em Biologia pela Universidade do Porto, em 1996, tendo concluído o mestrado e o doutorado em julho de 2000 e dezembro de 2006, respetivamente, ambos na Universidade do Porto. É autor de 50 artigos publicados em periódicos de mérito científico internacionais, possuindo mais de 1000 citações e índice h de 17. Alguns desses artigos foram publicados em periódicos relevantes na área, como Molecular Ecology, Journal of Biogeography, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences ou Science advances. Ele também publicou um livro e três capítulos de livros. Foi supervisor ou co-orientador de quatro teses de doutorado e quatro de mestrado. Ele foi o pesquisador principal (PI) em 4 projetos de pesquisa, 3 projetos FCT e um projeto de cooperação transnacional FCT / CAPES. Ele participou como membro da equipe de investigação em mais de 10 projetos, 7 dos quais financiados por instituições internacionais. Atualmente, é líder do grupo de investigação TROPBIO (Biologia Tropical). A. Ele integra o Conselho de Administração do CIBIO-InBIO desde 2015.
