BSc. in Civil Engineering by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1977), MSc in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) by Coppe/Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1981) and PhD in Civil Engineering by the University of Oxford (1987). Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (Engineering Sciences Division) since 2007 and in 2008 was inducted in the National Scientific Merit Order by the Brazilian Government Presidency. Honorary Member of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and two times recipient of the IGS Award (1996 and 2004) among other awards. Mercer Lecturer 2007-2008 (IGS/ISSMGE). He is Editor of the Journal Geosynthetics International and Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and of the Journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes, Past editor of the journal Soils and Rocks and member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Soils and Rocks (ABMS), Environmental Geotechnics (ICE) and International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering (Springer). Reviewer for several international journals of geotechnical engineering. Has experience in Civil Engineering, focusing on geotechnical engineering, acting on the following subjects: geosynthetics in geotechnical engineering and in geoenvironmental works, soil reinforcement, retaining structures, slope stability and earth works.
Ennio Marques Palmeira é engenheiro civil pela UFRJ, mestre pela COPPE, doutor pela University of Oxford (1987), com estágio de pós doutorado na University of British Columbia. É Membro Titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências e Professor Titular da Universidade de Brasília. Foi admitido na Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico, na classe Comendador, pela Presidência da República do Brasil em 21/08/2008. Foi Coordenador de Engenharias I da CAPES e Coordenador do Comitê Assessor de Engenharia Civil do CNPq. Foi Editor da Revista Soils and Rocks da ABMS/ABGE/SPG (2004-2011), É Editor do journal Geosynthetics International e Associate Editor do Canadian Geotechnical Journal e do Journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes. É membro dos Corpos Editoriais dos periódicos Environmental Geotechnics, Soils and Rocks e International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering. Tem servido como consultor de diversos órgãos de fomento no país, do Australian Research Council-National Board of Employment Education and Training, do Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, do Chilean National Science and Technology Commission-FONDECYT e do Programa ALBAN da Comunidade Européia. É Membro Honorário da International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), tendo sido membro do Conselho da IGS e presidente de dois comitês dessa associação (Educação e América do Sul). Foi Mercer Lecturer 2007-2008 (IGS/ISSMGE). É também membro da ABMS, da Comissão de Normas da ABNT e do European Committee on Standardization. Proferiu diversas palestras e cursos no país e no exterior. Tem atuado como revisor de trabalhos para a Geotechnique, Canadian Geotechnical Journal, International Journal on Pavement Engineering, Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering-ASCE, Journal of Environmental Engineering-ASCE, International Journal of Geomechanics-ASCE, Journal Geomechanics and Engineering, Geotechnical Testing Journal-ASTM, Soil Dynamics and Earthquakes, Soils and Foundations e Journal Geomechanics and Geoengineering, entre outros. Publicou mais de 350 trabalhos científicos. Orientou 59 dissertações de mestrado e 29 teses de doutorado, além de 18 trabalhos de iniciação científica e 26 trabalhos de conclusão de curso na área de Geotecnia. Recebeu 54 prêmios e/ou homenagens no país e no exterior. Atualmente coordena 8 projetos de pesquisa e atua na área de infraestrutura em Engenharia Civil, com ênfase em utilização de geossintéticos em Geotecnia e Meio Ambiente e reforço e melhoria de solos.
