Simoni Zarzur

I am oceanography, master degree (M.Sc.) in Chemical, Physical and Geology Oceanography and currently I am in the last year of my PhD in the program of Biological Oceanography (http://www.ocbio.furg.br/) in Rio Grande Federal University Foundation (FURG) located in the south extremity of Brazil. I am studying the sources of nutrients (N. P, Si) and their biogeochemical cycling in the Patos Lagoon estuary. The sources include natural sources such as rivers, groundwater, and the ocean; others are effluents from shrimp farms, domestic sewage, and oil refineries. To study the sources and cycles, we collect many samples in the lagoon and use benthic chambers (light and dark), pore waters extracted with a centrifuge, and molecular biology to study microbial ecology. Associated studies include sediment properties (composition, porosity), bioturbation by benthic macrofauna, primary production (in water and sediment), and groundwater sampling.

graduation at Oceanologia from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (1995) and master's at Geosciences from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (2001). Has experience in Oceanografy, acting on the following subjects: alimentação, estuário da lagoa dos patos, nutrientes, câmaras bentônicas and plásticos.
