Carlos Alberto Cimini Junior

Holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1984), with emphasis on Aeronautics. Completed a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1992 and a PhD in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in 1997. Visiting scholar on sabbatical leave from 2016 to 2017 at the Department of Aeronautical and Vehicle Engineering of KTH (Royal Institute of Technology ) in Stockholm (Sweden) and from 2008 to 2009 at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University in Palo Alto (USA). Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department (DEMEC) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) from 1989 to 2009 and of the Mechanical Design Department (DPM) of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) from 2010 to 2012. Currently professor of Department of Structural Engineering (DEES) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Experience in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, with emphasis on stress analysis in structures and composite materials, working mainly on the following topics: application of composite materials in infrastructure, structural health monitoring, finite element method, stress analysis , composite materials, fatigue and fracture. Also works in the area of ​​Bioengineering related to the modeling of structures in biological systems.

É graduado em Engenharia Mecânica pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1984), com Ênfase em Aeronáutica. Concluiu mestrado em Engenharia de Estruturas pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais em 1992 e doutorado em Aeronáutica e Astronáutica pela Stanford University em 1997. Foi pesquisador visitante em licença sabática de 2016 a 2017 no Departamento de Engenharia Aeronáutica e Veicular do KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) em Estocolmo (Suécia) e de 2008 a 2009 no Departamento de Aeronáutica e Astronáutica da Universidade de Stanford em Palo Alto (EUA). Foi professor do Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica (DEMEC) da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) de 1989 a 2009 e do Departamento de Projeto Mecânico (DPM) da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) de 2010 a 2012. Atualmente é professor titular do Departamento de Engenharia de Estruturas (DEES) da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Tem experiência na área de Engenharia Mecânica e Aeronáutica, com ênfase em análise de tensões em estruturas e materiais compostos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: aplicação de materiais compostos em infra-estrutura, monitoramento da saúde estrutural, método dos elementos finitos, análise de tensões, materiais compostos, fadiga e fratura. Atua também na área de Bioengenharia relacionada à modelagem de estruturas em sistemas biológicos.
