Full Professor of the Department of Cell Biology and Development, Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB), University of São Paulo (USP), graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo (1980) and obtained the degrees of Master (1991) and Doctorate (1994) in Medicine (Clinical Endocrinology) at the Paulista School of Medicine - Unifesp and Associate Professor (2005) at ICB-USP. She is member of the Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS), the American Thyroid Association (ATA), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the Brazilian Cellular Biology Society (SBBC) and the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology (SBEM). She served as members of board of directors of LATS and SBEM-Thyroid, and as chair of SBEM-Thyroid Department (2009-2010). She was editor-in-chief (2007 -2010) of the Archives of Endocrinology Metabolism (AEM) - formely Arquivos Brasileiros de Endocrinologia e Metabologia (ABEM). Currently she contributes to the the editorial board of THYROID (EUA), AEM (Brazil), Brazilian J Med Biol Research (Brazil). The field of her research covers the understanding of Thyroid and Goiter Cancer tumorigenesis, with emphasis on the signaling pathways MAPK (BRAF), TGFbeta, iodine and microRNA using in vitro and in vivo models that include techniques of molecular biology, histology, cell biology, genomics, gene editing and animal model. She has been mentored undergraduate, graduate students and pos-doctoral fellows, and some of them presently are scientists in Brazil and abroad. For her contribution to the thyroid research she was awarded with the LATS Prize by the Latin American Thyroid Society in 2009 and the EBT-2016 Prize by the Department of Thyroid - SBEM.
