Médico, microbiologista, pesquisador e consultor do hospital universitário Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital (CWZ) e da Universidade de Radboudumc (Nijmegen, Holanda). Possui PhD em Ciências, é um especialista médico certificado na Holanda e membro oficial das seguintes sociedades Infectious Diseases Society of America, do Royal College of Pathology (Reino Unido) e da American Academy of Microbiology. Ex-presidente da Sociedade Holandesa de Micologia Médica, ex-presidente da Confederação Europeia de Micologia Médica e ex-presidente do Programa de Controle de Qualidade Externo em Bacteriologia e Micologia na Holanda. Além de ser editor sênior do Mycoses, ele é membro do Subcomitê do CLSI de Testes de Suscetibilidade a Antifúngicos nos EUA. Sua pesquisa se concentra no diagnóstico, tratamento, tipagem molecular e suscetibilidade antifúngica de Aspergillus, Cryptococcus e outros fungos filamentosos raros. Ele é membro das Sociedades Britânica, Alemã e Holandesa de Micologia e da Sociedade Internacional de Micologia Humana e Animal.

In addition to being a senior editor at Mycoses, he is a member of the CLSI Subcommittee on Antifungal Susceptibility Testing in the USA. His research focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, molecular typing and antifungal susceptibility of Aspergillus, Cryptococcus and other rare filamentous fungi. Member of the British, German and Dutch Mycological Societies and the International Human and Animal Mycological Society.
