Viviani Caroline Onishi

Dr Viviani Onishi is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Deputy Programme Leader of BEng/BEng (Hons) in Energy and Environmental Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering & the Built Environment of the Edinburgh Napier University in the United Kingdom. She has obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering following her doctoral studies in the field of Process Systems Engineering (Synthesis, Design and Optimisation of Energy Processes) at the State University of Maringá in Brazil (2014). She also holds PhD Equivalences by the University of Alicante in Spain (2015), and the University of Aveiro in Portugal (2017). She has a strong publication record, which includes numerous peer-reviewed articles on top-tier journals of her field like Applied Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Desalination, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Energy; book chapters for Elsevier and Springer Nature; and, conference papers on international proceedings. She is currently a Topic Editor for journal Processes, Guest Editor for a Special Issue of the Journal Sustainability, Guest Editor for a Special Issue of the Journal Processes, and is serving as an Ad-Hoc Reviewer for over 30 international SCI-indexed renowned journals. She has also been involved in several high-profile national and international projects, including a major H2020 project. Her research interests lie on the development of decision support tools for the optimal design and operation of more sustainable and cost-efficient advanced energy systems, including integrated renewable-driven polygeneration and desalination systems; renewable energy-driven thermal desalination; low carbon and net-zero smart energy systems; smart district heating and cooling systems; thermal-efficient building design; advanced energy storage and conversion systems; waste heat recovery alternatives; heat and work exchange networks; and, energy-water nexus.
