Maurício Neves Cantor Magnani

I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences and in the Marine Mammal Institute, both at the Oregon State University, USA. I lead the Laboratory for Animal Behavioural Interaction Research In The Ocean (LABIRINTO), teach and supervise at the MSc and PhD program in Wildlife Sciences, and teach at the undergraduate level at the Marine Studies Initiative. Beyond my professional appointment at the Oregon State University, I collaborate as a non-tenured adjunct faculty at the Graduate Program in Ecology of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and at the Graduate Program in Coastal and Oceanic Systems of Universidade Federal do Paraná, both in Brazil; and I serve as an Honorary Researcher in the School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. I have held a 1-year fixed-term Adjunct Lecturer position at the Biological Sciences Centre at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil. I have had several postdoctoral appointments: I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Ecology and Zoology at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil); at Centre for Marine Studies at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Brazil); and at the Department of Collective Behaviour of the Max-Planck-Institut for Animal Behaviour and the Department of Biology, University Konstanz (Germany). I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department for the Ecology of Animal Societies at the Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour, Max-Planck-Institut for Animal Behaviour (Germany), and as a visiting researcher at the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, University of Zurich (Switzerland). I earned a Ph.D. in Biology from Dalhousie University (Canada, 2016), a M.Sc. degree in Ecology from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil, 2011), and a Bachelor?s/teaching degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil, 2008). My research interests and expertise include behavioural, population and community ecology, animal behaviour, sociobiology, modelling and analyses of biological data.

Atualmente, leciono e oriento em nível de mestrado e doutorado no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Wildlife Sciences, e leciono na graduação interdisciplinar em Marine Studies da Marine Studies Initiative da Oregon State University, EUA. Atuo também, desde 2018, como Professor Colaborador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ecologia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (PPGECO, UFSC) e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sistemas Costeiros e Oceânicos da Universidade Federal do Paraná (PGSISCO, /UFPR). Colaboro ainda como pesquisador colaborador nos grupos de pesquisa do Laboratório de Mamíferos Aquáticos (LAMAq, UFSC) desde 2011, do grupo de pesquisa Sistemas Costeiros e Oceânicos (PGSISCO, UFPR) desde 2017, e Interfaces Humano Não-Humano (INUMA, Universidade Federal de Sergipe, UFS) desde 2017 e, remotamente, como Pesquisador Honorário da School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Sciences da University of the Witwatersrand, Africa do Sul, desde 2018. Recentemente, atuei como pesquisador de pós-doutorado do Department for the Ecology of Animal Societies do Max-Planck-Institut of Animal Behaviour, Alemanha; no Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies da University of Zurich, Suíça; no Department of Collective Behaviour do Max-Planck-Institute for Animal Behavior e Department of Biology e Centre for the Advanced Studies of Collective Behaviour da Universität Konstanz, Alemanha; do Centro de Estudos do Mar da Universidade Federal do Paraná; e do Departamento de Ecologia e Zoologia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Em 2018, fui professor substituto no Centro de Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Concluí a graduação em Ciências Biológicas na Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) em 2008 e recebi título de mestrado em Ecologia pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) em 2011. Recebi título de doutorado em Biologia pela Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS) no Canadá em 2016, com bolsa de doutorado pleno no exterior fornecida pelo CNPq, ao término da qual, retornei ao Brasil para atuar como pós-doutorando no programa de pós-graduação em Ecologia da UFSC. Meus interesses de pesquisa e ensino incluem Ecologia Comportamental, Ecologia de Populações e de Comunidades, Comportamento Animal, Sociobiologia, Modelagem Estatística e Análise de Dados Biológicos.
