Engenheiro Agrônomo pela Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiróz, Universidade de São Paulo (ESALQ/USP), 1991. Mestrado em Agricultura Sustentável, com ênfase em Sistemas Agroflorestais pelo Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enzenanza (CATIE - Costa Rica), 1997. PhD em Ciências Ambientais pela Indiana University (IU - EUA), 2006. Foi professor do Centro de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Universidade de Brasília (CDS/UnB) de 2009 a 2020. Atualmente é professor do Instituto Amazônico de Agriculturas Familiares (INEAF) da Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA).Tem interesse em sistemas agroflorestais/agroecológicos e agricultura familiar sustentável; alternativas econômicas ao desflorestamento na Amazônia e no Cerrado; serviços ambientais e redução de pobreza; planejamento territorial e reforma agrária; políticas públicas e meio ambiente.

Masters degree in Sustainable Agriculture, with emphasis on Agroforestry Systems at the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enzenanza (CATIE - Costa Rica), 1997. PhD in Environmental Sciences from Indiana University (IU - USA), 2006. I was professor at the Center for Sustainable Development at the University of Brasilia (CDS / UnB) from 2009 to 2020. I am currently professor at the Amazon Institute of Family Farms (INEAF) from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). I am interested in agroforestry / agroecological systems and sustainable family farming; economic alternatives to deforestation in the Amazon and Cerrado; environmental services and poverty reduction; territorial planning and land reform; public policies and the environment.
