Manuela da Silva

Graduated in Biological Science at the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) (1991), with specialization degree on Mycology at the International Mycological Institute-CABI, England (1993), master degree in Food Engineering (Microbiology) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) (1996), PhD in Food Science (Microbiology) at UNICAMP (2002) and part of it at the Food and Drug Administration ? National Center for Toxicological Research (FDA-NCTR) in USA (2000 and 2001). In 2002 joined Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ) and currently works as Advisor to the Vice-President of Research and Biological Collections. She acted as Coordinator of Biological Collections at Fiocruz for 12 years and currently is the General Manager of the Fiocruz COVID-19 Biobank for human biological material and viruses. She is also permanent professor of the Postgraduate Program in Health Surveillance of the National Institute for Health Quality Control (INCQS/ Fiocruz) since 2003. Currently she is Vice President of the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC), affiliated to the Brazilian Society of Microbiology (SBM) and to the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC), member of the Executive Committee of the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) and of the Ethics, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI) Committee of the Earth BioGenome Project. She also is member of the Digital Sequence Information Scientific Network. Since 2016 she is a member of the Special Study Commission on Biotechnology - CEE 276 of ABNT (ISO/TC 276 - Biotechnology), in addition to being a member of the CEE on Biodiversity - CEE 331 of ABNT (ISO/TC 331 - Biodiversity) and CEE on Biosafety and Biosecurity CEE-244 of ABNT. She was member of the Genetic Heritage Management Council (CGen/Ministry of Environment), the ABS National Competent Authority, from 2011 until 2015 and in 2023 she became a member again. Since 2017 she has been the Coordinator of the Academic Sectorial Chamber of the Genetic Heritage Management Council (CGen/MMA). She has experience in Culture Collection and in legislation of access and benefit sharing (ABS).

National Center for Toxicological Research (FDA-NCTR), nos Estados Unidos (2000 e 2001). Em 2002 foi admitida na Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) e atualmente é assessora da Vice-Presidência de Pesquisa e Coleções Biológicas (VPPCB). Atuou como Coordenadora das Coleções Biológicas da Fiocruz por 12 anos e agora é Gerente Geral do Biobanco COVID-19 da Fiocruz de material biológico humano e vírus. Também é professora permanente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Vigilância Sanitária (INCQS/FIOCRUZ) desde 2003. Atualmente é Vice-presidente da Federação Mundial de Coleções de Culturas (World Federation of Culture Collection - WFCC), associada à Sociedade Brasileira de Microbiologia (SBM) e à Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC), membro do Comitê Executivo do Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) e do Comitê de Questões Éticas, Legais e Sociais (ELSI) do Earth BioGenome Project (EBP). Também é membro do Digital Sequence Information Scientific Network. Desde 2016 é membro da Comissão de Estudo Especial de Biotecnologia - CEE 276 da ABNT (ISO/TC 276 - Biotechnology), além de membro da CEE de Biodiversidade - CEE 331 da ABNT (ISO/TC 331 - Biodiversity) e da CEE de Biossegurança e Bioproteção CEE-244 da ABNT. Foi Conselheira Titular do Conselho de Gestão do Patrimônio Genético (CGEN/MMA) de 2011 a 2015 e em 2023 voltou a ser conselheira pela SBPC. Desde 2017 é coordenadora da Câmara Setorial da Academia do Conselho de Gestão do Patrimônio Genético (CGen/MMA). Tem experiência na área de Coleções de Cultura e em legislação de acesso e repartição de benefícios (ABS).
